AVIAN WELLNESS EXAMINATION GUIDELINES

POST PURCHASE EXAMINATION

Post purchase examinations are important for any new addition. We recommend evaluation of your new bird within 7 days of acquisition. Even though they may look and act great, it is important to get them off on the right tract. Post Purchase evaluation will detect is your bird is infected with potentially deadly viruses, bacteria and fungi. The examination should include physical assessment, discussion of proper nutrition and care, and laboratory testing as follows:

Complete Blood Cell Count

Plasma Electrophoresis

Serum Chemistries

Fecal Gram Stain

Fecal Flotation for parasites

Giardia Antigen Elisa

DNA Probes to detect presence of Polyomavirus, Beak & Feather Disease Virus and Chlamydia, the latter which causes Psittacosis

BIANNUAL WELLNESS EXAMINATIONS

We recommend wellness examinations for your birds every 6 months. Even though they may appear healthy, something may be brewing inside that routine screening may detect. It is always better and more economical to have your bird checked biannually then waiting until it is sick.

Complete Blood Cell Count every 6 months

Fecal Gram Stain every 6 months

Plasma Electrophoresis every 12 months

Serum Chemistries every 12 months

Radiographs every 2 years
