Brendon
Acting was not Nicholas' first
career choice. He was born and raised in Granada Hills, California, and
went to College of the Canyon, where he played baseball. It was his dream
to play in the majors, but he broke his arm in such a way that he could
never play professionally. Soon he began work in commercials, but switched
roles becoming a production assistant on the series Dave's World.
He also appeared in a recurring role on The Young and the Restless,
as lead in a pilot called Secret Lives, in a guest spot (like David
Boreanaz) on Married...with Children, and in Children of the
Corn 3: Urban Harvest. Then he landed the role of Xander in just 4
days.
FACT: Nicholas Brendon has a twin brother called
Kelly who dyed his hair blond to avoid having to sign autographs!
FACT: Nicholas Brendon had a pierced belly button
for 3 or 4 years, but Whedon told him to take it out because 'Xander wouldn't
have a belly button ring.'
