The Great Outdoors
by Aimee EwellWhen Lisa told us we were going outside for a writing assignment, I thought, “Yea, right. . . it’s freezing outside! When she led us to the area with the Sun God “funky chicken,” I started seeing the true colors of nature in this area.
I smelled the fresh morning dew resting on the tall, thin blades of grass.
I felt the cool breeze flowing through the air allowing the trees to stretch their long, thin arms. The grass shook off its morning dew.
I heard leaves rustling in the cool summer breeze. The birds whistling their loving tune.
I tasted the cotton candy clouds that rested above my head. The clean, fresh, peppermint air lingered in my nostrils.
I saw the small—yet visible—flowers bobbing up and down in the wind. A colony of ants working together as a team to find food so they wouldn’t starve.
After a while, the sun came out from behind the clouds as it shimmered in the huge sky. My adventure was over, for at that time we had to return to the classroom.
