Recently the Caribbean Carousel
went for an adventurous day at Salybia Bay river water falls in North
eastern Trinidad. While we were there we had alot of fun after a one
hour hike through the forest.
When we got to the Falls after an
enjoyable hike through the forest it was exciting to see the Brilliant
white waters cascading down the rocky slope crashing into the clear, blue
green waters of the pond below, surrounded by a carpet of tropical ferns.
It sure was an amazing sight to behold
The force of the
waterfall which is about 20 feet high has dug a large 22 feet deep pond at
the base of the falls. The pond is about 75 feet wide and circular with
fine gravel on the bottom.
Dominic and Suelin decided to climb
up the steep wall of the falls to get to the top and have a look around.
Soon they were jumping off the top and making big splashes into the
beautiful water.
Wheee! Look out below!.
To get to
the falls you take the main road from Valancia or Sangre Grande to
Toco. After the 14 1/4 mile post you cross the Salibia River bay bridge and
immediately turn left into the Salybia-Matura Trace which is partly paved
but has many pot holes and muddy in places for about 20 minutes till you
can drive no further then you hike the trail into the Mora forest which is
marked along the way with signs advising you to stay on the trail. you
will walk for about one hour and cross three river beds.
Once
you get there, take a delightful swim in the pond but remember that the
pond is very deep and bathing under the falls is dangerous, there is a
strong circular current in the pool near the falls and the water is cold.
Take some food with you and enjoy a great meal but remember to take your
garbage home with you, leave nothing but footprints behind. Let Mother
Nature have a Good Time
Too!!!!!
