Now The Waiting Begins

Despite the Harrisburg Heat's off-the-field difficulties the past two seasons, the Major Indoor Soccer League's immediate plans do not include abandoning Pennsylvania's capital city.

If professional indoor soccer does survive for a 13th season in Harrisburg, however, MISL commissioner Steve Ryan said yesterday the Heat franchise will operate with a new ownership group in place and without present owner Rod Rumberger at the helm.

Heat End Season on Three Game Win Streak

Eight different players scored, and Marco Coria collected four assists, as the Harrisburg Heat defeated the Kansas City Comets 24-20 in both teams’ regular season finale Sunday at Farm Show Arena.

The teams combined for 85 shots, 48 of them by Harrisburg. Nikola Vignjevic scored the game-winning goal at 8:32 of the fourth quarter, off Coria’s final assist. The game did not have any playoff implications.

Chris Morman, Matt Tanzini, Ato Leone and David Bascome each scored twice for the Heat. Coria, Genoni Martinez, Ze Roberto and Vignjevic had one goal apiece. Although the Comets took 37 shots, only 20 got through to keeper Raul Salas, who made ten saves. Martinez recorded a game-high four blocks.

Early goals by Jeff Davis and Miodrag Djerisilo gave the Comets a 4-0 lead, but the Heat equalized before the intermission and the first quarter ended at 4-4. KC’s next two goals, by Nate Houser (4:14 of the second) and Nino DaSilva (7:05) kept the Comets in front by two points, but Harrisburg exploded for three goals in a 1:20 span at the end of the half to go up 12-8, and never relinquished the lead. Comets ‘keeper Blair Quinn faced 32 shots and made 20 saves.
