CHAPTER 12

(Kaitlyn's apartment/ 5pm)

Kaitlyn had just gotten off the phone with Justin and he had made her feel so much better. He just listened to all she had to say and then said what he felt about it all. She was glad to be able to open up to him when she needed to get things off her chest. There was a lot of packing to do but Kaitlyn decided to call Jennifer and Cheyanne while she did it. She picked up the cordless and dialed Jennifer's number. She was only nineteen and Cody was eighteen, but they moved out as fast they could. Cody moved to New York to attend NYU and Jennifer lived in California. She often felt left behind that they had both moved farther away from home then she did, but she was the first to move out and she was glad enough to be away from the uproar of her disfunctional family.

"Hello?" Jennifer answered the phone.

"Jenni, it's Kait."

"Ohmygosh, finally you called! Haven't heard from you for awhile now."

"Yeah, I know, I'm sorry about that."

"So to what do I have the honor of receiving a call from you at this time of the day? Aren't you suppose to be at work?"

"Well that's why I called. I quit my job at Disney and I got an even better one touring with an up and coming group called NSYNC."

"That's great sis. Have you told mom and dad yet?"

"Oh yeah! They weren't happy with my decisions, but they never are."

"I know what you mean. Does Shannon and Misty still live at home? You know I never talk to them anymore. I find it pointless to fight with those airhead older sisters of ours."

"Well, Misty said she got a job, which I think isn't a great one at that, and Shannon's with some biker slash crackhead named Mitch."

"Oh boy. The joy's of being a Davis in our family. That's the reason I moved out. Shannon and Misty that is. They don't like us at all, me, Cody and you are like strangers to them. "

"Oh yes, the pleasures of having THEM as direct family."

"Forget about them, so tell me what's up with this NSYNC."

"Well, they're a group of five real nice and cute guys."

"Wait, stop there...I heard cute. Any my age?"

"Um, well, there's Justin, he's 17. Then there's Lance, he's 19."

"OOHHHHHH.....don't forget to have them tour here in LA. I'd love to meet them. And see you of course!"

"Yeah, of course. I'll get you VIP tickets."

"I feel so loved."

"There's also JC, he's real sweet and caring, Chris who's so immature for his age and Joey, who, well....reminds me of you!"

"And why is that?"

"Cause he's a huge FLIRT!"

"I'm beginning to see the similarity."

"Yeah I know. I just loved watching you make Misty and Shannon jealous with the many boyfriends you brought home."

"Funny, that all changed when I moved here. By the way, you talk to Cody yet?"

"No, actually, his classes should be done by now, I better go call him. My long distance bill is going to cost me an arm and BOTH legs."

"I love your sense of humor. Okay, tell Cody I said hi."

"I will. Love you Jenni."

"Love you too Kait."

Kaitlyn hung up the phone and went through her drawers to look for Cody's number. She wasn't a messy person, but she wasn't neat either. She knew though that Cheyanne wasn't home yet so she decided to leave her a message then call Cody.

"Hey you've reached Cheyanne, I'm probably dropping my grades from A's to F's right about now so leave a message."

"BEEP"

"Hey Cheyanne, it's Kaitlyn, well, I know your grades are still perfect and all but I was just returning your call. I'll be leaving early tomorrow so I'll call you later. By the way, we do have a concert scheduled in Boston, so hope I get to see you. Got to go. Bye."

Kaitlyn didn't want to waste any time she had left before tomorrow so she called Cody and decided to head to the mall one last time before the tour started.

"Hello?"

"May I please speak to Cody?"

"Yeah, this is him. Who's this?"

"How rude, how could you not know your own sister?"

"Please tell me your Kaitlyn."

"Yes doodles(her little name for him) it's me. Why?"

"Kait Kait! I told you not to call me that here! It'll look bad in front of my frat brothers!"

"Sorry."

"It's okay though. But I thought you were Shannon, she's been calling here asking for money to settle her crackhead boyfriends urges for what else, crack!"

"I see. Well, she'll do anything to make her boyfriends happy. That is so they'll stay with her."

Cody burst into a fit of laughter, "yeah I know. So how come your calling this early in the day?"

"I don't work at Disney anymore. I work at a management studio. I'm going to start touring with a group named NSYNC."

"That's great!"

"Yeah, but we're leaving for Texas tomorrow."

"That soon?"

"Yup. But I'll be able to visit you when we get to NY. So there's a good point."

"Good. Haven't seen you for awhile. I miss you."

"Oh, I miss you too Cody. But enough of the sad stuff, how's Amaya?"

"Me and her have been on and off the past couple months. I really do like her, but sometimes, she gets too suffocating."

"Uh-oh, trouble in paradise already? So do you think you'll still be seeing her?"

"I hope so. But she is older than I am and she's had a lot of older relationships with guys older than her."

"Don't worry little bro. Look, I hate to have to cut our little talk short but I have to get to the mall before it closes."

"Alright. Decided to use up that money of yours shopping?"

"No, I just need to get a few things."

"Kait, you and the mall does not equal to, a FEW things."

"I know. But I'm on a budget."

"Alright. I'll let you budget your money, at the mall."

"Bye Cody."

"Bye Kaitlyn."

The line between them clicked and Kaitlyn hung up the phone. She looked at her closet and saw that she still had a lot of stuff to pack. She planned on only bringing two bags, but all that wasn't going to fit two bags. But she didn't worry too much about it. She grabbed her bag and walked out of her bedroom. When she opened her door she was startled to see Justin standing in her doorway.

"Geez Justin! What are you doing here?" Kaitlyn asked surprised.

"I came over cause I thought you were still shaken up over your phone call home." He said concerned.

"I'm find Justin. I talked to Jennifer and Cody and hearing their voices made me feel so much better." Kaitlyn said with a smile.

"And did I help you too?" Justin said taking her hand.

"Yes. Thanks so much. It really means a lot to me to be able to open up to you." Kaitlyn said putting her arms around Justin and hugging him close to her.

It felt good to have his arms around her. Holding her close to him. It just felt secure and right.

Justin pulled away from her but still kept his arms around her waist. He brushed a few stray hairs from her face and gave her a sweet kiss on her forehead.

"So where were you going in such a hurry?" He asked in low whisper.

Kaitlyn returned the answer also in a low sweet whisper, "the mall."

"And why the mall?" He asked with a chuckle.

"Well, I thought I might go get JC a birthday gift.

"Good idea. Can I come along?" He asked letting her go.

"Sure, why not?" She said with an even bigger smile. "I need a new wardrobe anyways. I could use an opinion."

"Oh, I feel special."

"Well, make sure your little opinions aren't anything I wouldn't want to hear." She said pointing her finger straight at him.

"I promise!" He said crossing his fingers right in front of her.

Kaitlyn took his crossed fingers and uncrossed them, "oh you! Let's go already!"

(At the mall)

"I don't know Kaitlyn, I like the skirt, but I don't really like the top." Justin said shaking his head.

"So what would match the skirt?" She said looking around the store.

Justin signed her to wait a minute before he came back with a baby blue see through with a spaghetti underneath. "This should match well."

Kaitlyn shook her head and laughed, "Justin, the last five tops, skirts, and dresses you've picked out for me has been baby blue."

"Of course cause it's my favorite color."

"I could tell. Alright, let me try that on then I want to go over to Forever 21 and get a dress there."

"A dress for what?"

"Just for the heck of having a nice dress to wear if I need one."

Justin looked her over in the black short side cut skirt and white three fourths shirt. "I think something like that looks fine on you. Except for the top."

"Earth to Justin, I mean something formal to wear. Not something stylish like this!"

"WOMEN!"

(Forever 21)

Kaitlyn came out of the dressing room in a baby pink strappy dress. Justin hadn't noticed her at first but when he looked up, he was amazed.

"Kaitlyn! You look...look..." his voice trailed off.

"Speechless? Well, I don't know, it's so....PINK!"

"It's beautiful. Your beautiful, in that dress I mean." He said totally astonished at Kaitlyn's beauty. Of course he didn't think it was his place to say it, but he believed it.

"No,I think I'll go try the red one."

A few minutes later Kaitlyn was in a beautiful red strappy and backless dress. She came out of dressing room to find Justin not sitting in the chair he had been sitting in earlier. She saw him coming but at first he didn't notice her as he carried a black dress for her to try on, "here you go sweetness, I..."

Justin stopped in his tracks as he took in the shock of the dress that Kaitlyn was wearing. Kaitlyn smiled and did a little turn to show off the restof the dress.

"You look terrific. I think you should get that one. It's perfect." He said.

Kaitlyn couldn't help but blush, "you really think so?".

"YES! It looks great on you."

"That's all I needed to hear. I'm getting it."

"Great." Justin said smiling at Kaitlyn before she walked back into the dressing room.

(Kaitlyn's apartment)

After about three hundred dollars worth of clothes and a gift for JC, Justin had dropped Kaitlyn off at her apartment.

"Thanks for coming along Justin. You were a big help." She said giving him a big hug.

"Hey, thank YOU for letting me help you out. I'm sure JC will like your gift."

"Yeah, I hope he will."

"I better get going. I'll see you in the morning sweetness." Justin said giving her a short but sweet and romantic kiss on the cheek.

"Bye." Kaitlyn said in a whisper.

"Bye."

------------------

Kaitlyn put all of her new clothes in her luggages and tossed out her old clothes. She was excited. VERY EXCITED. And happy. She spent such a wonderful day with Justin. One she knew she wouldn't forget. As she layed down in her bed, the phone rang,

"Hello?"

"Hey sweetness."

"Justin. Hey, how you doing?"

"Great. And you?"

"Fine. Well, only me, not my checkbook that is. With all the money I spent."

"Don't worry about that. I just wanted to call and make sure you were doing okay."

"I am, how sweet of you to check up."

"Yeah, well, good night sweetness."

"Good night Justin."
