About me =================================================== 1. Intro --------- Have you heard the hype? Dance Dance revolution is the craze of the late 1990's, early 2000's. It is one of the fews games that acctually helps you out with your health. In Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) you use your feet to play this game. In this case its a simulation of really dancing and gives you lots of energy and balance once you get good. Well... basically you dance with the music you choose. Hows it done? There is a dance pad with four arrows. They are layed out like the arrows on a keyboard number panal. On the screen arrows begin to rise from the bottom of the screen. These are the same arrows as whats on the pad (Left, Right, Up, Down). At the top of the screen are 4 arrows darken and lined up next to each other. The way they are lined up is Left, Down, Up, Right going from left to right. As the arrow reaches that corresponding arrow you step that very same arrow. Try to go with the timing of the song for more accuracy. ----------------------------------------- | Crowd Meter LEVEL Crowd Meter | | | | < /\ \/ > < /\ \/ > | | | | | | | | Arrows Arrows | | rise rise | | here here | | | | | | | | | |Diffculty lvl Difficulty lvl | |SCORE SCORE | |---------------------------------------- Here is alittle diagram for the game field. Take a good look at it. Should be self explanitory. Basicly the arrows you have to step on start rising in the area "Arrows Rise here". Once the arrow reaches "< /\ \/ >" thats when you step. Thats it. Well it sounds easy but its could take 2 to 3 games to get use to it. DDR is basicly easy to learn and hard to master. And even when you master it you can go farther by added stunts and tricks. ================================================== 2. Modes ----------- Following this section will help you understand what the modes are as well as some modes that wouldn't appear normally. DDR 1st mix and 2nd mix ---------------------- Before you hit the start button, hold down the left and right arrows then press start. A window will open up. Depending on it you have 1 or 2 credits set the following will be displayed: Single - One player plays Couple - Two players play with different dance moves Versus - Two players play with same dance moves as in Single mode Double - One player plays both sides of the pad. *Tip- I have seen people in the arcade try to hold the left and right arrows for both players and hit both starts at the same time. Don't do this. I've seen it back fire. One of the start would start the game and somehow it would right away pick the song even before the buttons were released. Just put the code for one side and simply hit the start for the second player. After that you will come to the music select. There are a few secret codes that can be inputed here(look under secret codes). Once you find the song you like press the start button. Now you can press left or right the select the difficulty of the song. When selecting look at the amount of feet that are displayed. The range is from 1 foot to 9 feet. 9 feet would be very difficult. There are 4 different difficuly modes as follows: Beginner - Play this if your new to DDR universe (DDR USA only) Basic - This would equal Basic mode, Its well basic. Trick - This would equal Trick mode, its about medium Maniac - This would equall Maniac or SSR, Tough! DDR 3rd Mix ---------------------- Before you hit the start button, hold down the left and right arrows then press start. A window will open up. Depending on it you have 1 or 2 credits set the following will be displayed: Single - One player plays Unison - Two players play with different dance moves Versus - Two players play with same dance moves as in Single mode Double - One player plays both sides of the pad. *Tip- I have seen people in the arcade try to hold the left and right arrows for both players and hit both starts at the same time. Trick - This would equal Trick mode, its about medium Maniac - This would equall Maniac or SSR, Tough! DDR 4th mix ----------------- *With 4th mix there is no secret code for extra modes before you hit start so just go ahead and hit start. *Now you get to the mode select screen. The bottom left mode is one player play, the middle mode is two player play, and the top right is one player playing on both mats. *Now there is two modes for these 3 modes. :) If the backgroung is blue its the main mode. If you press R,R if will turn to a pink/orange color. This is Link Mode. In the main mode its just the set number of songs and you choose each one at a time. In link after you pick the mode you get 3 sub modes, Non stop, Internet, and Edit. In non stop you play all the songs at once without a stop. In internet ranking you can select a number of maniac songs. ANd edit is you own edit songs. *No matter what you pick you'll sooner or later get to the music select screen. Pick a song. After that pick one of the 3 difficulty levels. And now you dance. ==================================================== 5.Songs ---------- This is the list of songs and the difficulty of each level for most of the DDR games. I also added when each song first appeared(arcade). Remember that there is a very good chance in finding that song after it first appeared because konami just adds all the songs into later version. This excludes, unfortunatly, the home versions. It also excludes (unfortunatly) 6th mix and after in arcades. Tips/Hints/Tactics ------------------------- >Legend ------------- L = Left Panal R = Right Panal U = Up or Forward Panal D = Down or Back Panal A plus (+) symbol between two of the above indicate both panals to be press at the same time otherwise called a Corner Jump or a Regular Jump. Whole Step = A step with the beat. Half Step = A step between two whole beat step. Quarter Step = A trick step between a whole step and a half step. Triple Steps = Consist 3 steps in a row Jumbo Steps = At least 4 or more constant steps in a row. *Starters Tip 1 First of all if your new don't over do it by selecting harder modes. Play only One Foot songs. Playing even a Two Foot song could be bad. And also expect to lose. I've seen people play it for the first time, lose, and think they are no good and leave. Stay, enjoy, have fun. If you live in Encino head to Sherman Oaks Catle Park. I stick around there. :) *Starter Tip 2 If you have ever played any type of instrument especially drums then your at a good advantage. This also goes for marching bands. That helps even more since you can step in time. I have been in a marching band so that helped. If you try playing any song you like and try marching in place with the song. *Afronova ------------- BASIC - This is a fast and wild song. One thing to consider is that it is very fast. This version consist of nothing but whole steps except for the very end. Just keep your eye on the screen and see what you can do. For the last part the last 7 steps go with the song so try and listen to it first. When you play it face ether left or right and start from the left panal. It follows this pattern L, D, R, D, L, D, R TRICK - This mode uses the basics of Standard. There are a few parts that really can cause trouble. Theres one part that can be really tough. I think you know where it is if you played it already. Its in the middle. The pattern that is repeated about 4 times is like this: U/D jump, L/R jump, bottom left corner, L/R jump, bottom right jump, L/R jump, U/D jump. Its fast and tough but not impossible. *Drop Out ------------------ MANIAC - Talk about a challenge. A fun challenge. Since this is the fastest song and the hardest level get ready for many "fails". The funny thing is that i only played this like 3 or 4 times before i pasted it. It wasn't in the same setting tho and i did watch someone play 3 songs in a row so that probably help too. But anyway... When you actually see the steps by watching someone else you find out that its not that hard compared to some others. One way to help pass this stage is to sort of get a fix stare. Move as you sort of get the feel of whats next. Hmm sounds weird huh. Well probably that hardest part is in the middle with the whole step jump bundle. It looked like it was all over the place but actually i got that fix stare going :) and unbelievably i passed it. The last part is also another fun section. You doing a "Wonderland" fast march. It is not as tough as you think. Once you get the hang of that your golden cuz this is the part to really show off. You go so dam increadbly fast. *Jam Jam Reggae ----------------------- BASIC - What can I say? This is the slowest song in the game. Even though this can be a great beginners song, the song seems to more or less drag on. The hard part about this song is to get the timing with the song. This is especially tough if you played a very fast song like Afronova right before. This verson consisted of nothing but whole steps and triple same steps like L, L, L. TRICK - This is a much harder version then Standard especially when you get to some of those quarter steps. After you see this song a few times you get the idea of what your up against. This version includes triple steps, triple jumps including corners and those tight quarter steps and jumps. There 2 small deadly spots. The first are quarter jumps L+D, L+U, 4 times without break. And then the same for the right. Very hard to get all perfects on this but obviously it can happen. MANIAC - Even harder then Difficult but not completely new. Its mainly an upgraded version. There are lots of parts where there is a single arrrow followed by a corner jump with that same arrow in it. Just hop both until you get it. There is also another hard part and that is the monsterous amount arrows in one direction. In otherwords they are all quarter arrows in the same direction. When you see it the first time you first instinct is to pound on it like crazy but that has you missing it more then often. The only real help here is practice and that they are all evenly spreaded. *Orion.78 --------------------- Basic - Newbies shouldn't have too much trouble with this song. It is all composed of whole steps except for only one at the end. For basicly the whole song listen to the beat of the song. You can tap or bounce whatever just keep a steady beat. Now basicly hit all the arrows with that beat. The first part should get you going. There are 3 sets of the 4 arrows see if you can hit them all. Its 3 right, 3 down, 3 up and 3 left. That last part with the off beat, it completely goes with the song. You will for sure miss it the first time but if you listen to how it goes a few times you'll get it. Trick - Lets see... Except for the first part and the very last part this level is basicly whole steps and triplets. So if your at trick you should have too much trouble with this but the first at last part will. In the first part there is 4 sections of 5 steps. The nice thing is that they have a pattern. First part: R, D, L, D, R. Practice that by your self a few times and youll get it. Second part is the same just the other way and part 3 and 4 are like 1 and 2 but down is now up. The last part is more tricky. Since this is the last part you can comepletely blow it and still win. But if you do want to get them all this is the pattern. L, D, L, R, D, R, U, D, U, D, L+R. Its a triplet to the left then a tripelet to the right and a couple up/downs ending with a jump. Maniac - Your asking for alot of headaces on this one. Orion.78 may be slow but this difficulty may make the arcade version of 4th mix one of the hardest songs to date. Basicly in this level you are steping at every beat the song makes then there are alot of steps in between them to odd marks of the beat of the song. Its pretty tight but unless you can get that last part you can't past this stage. This is probably one of those songs that can be difficult to learn in the arcade even if you go over it 20 times. If you have the home version you have it alittle easier since you can use the training mode and slow it all down... even more. :) Basicly if you pass this song at this level you are a DDR god. *Paranoia Rebirth --------------------- BASIC - For the most part this is similar to Afronova in the way that it moves fast but most of the steps are whole steps and goes with the song. If you keep focus and have a clear mind you can pass this one really easy. TRICK - This version of Rebirth is pretty close to Standard. There are a few more tighter spots of trouble but its easy enough to pass with practice. Just before the last part you will be presented with a stream of down arrows with alternating left and right arrows. It starts with 2 down then the pattern of L, D, R, D, L. You will then get a L, D, L followed by R, D, R. The next part is trick. Its L, D, L, D, L, R, D, D+R, D+L. Practice it. *Silent Hill ------------- BASIC - This version of the song is very simple. The whole song only has whole steps. If you pretty much got past the basics you got this song too. TRICK - In a matter of speaking this is a pumped up version of standard. There is one spot though that will get you good if your unprepared. This version has got whole steps with triple steps added in. If you ever played Boom Boom Dollar your already ahead in conquering the hard part. After you get a small break you will get a few whole steps followed by the hard part. It goes like this: L, U, R, U, L, D, R, D, L, U, R, L. More to come.... ================================================== 7. Tricks ------------- >>Paranoia Rebirth ------------------- >>Tip - After the first pause there will start a part with Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Down, Down, Left... Use this area to do a slow clockwise turn. Face the screen and use Left foot on Up, then Right foot for the 2 rights. Now Left foot hits Down and Right foot hits Right one more time. Now Left foot hits Down twice then Right foot hits Left. You will go into 2 complete circles until the famous dramatic middle section of the song.(Basic) >>Silent Hill ------------- >>For this part have your Left foot on L, then Right foot on U. Left foot hits right and now you should be facing leftwards. Then have Right foot hit U, Left foot for L, Right foot for U, and Left foot for R. Now you should be facing rightward. Repeat the same way back in. After you face leftwards a second time your Left foot will come to L. The next step is R with your Right foot. =================================================== 8. Internet Ranking ----------------------- As you play you will gain points. If you pass all the songs you get a screen with your score and a password. Copy it down. After that go to www.konami.com/arcade and put your password and high score there. =================================================== 9.Secret Modes -------------------- Legend: U - Up arrow D - Down Arrow L - Left Arrow R - Right Arrow < - Left selection button > - Right selection button Start - Green Start button Dance Dance Revolution (1st MIX, PSX): At the title screen: To change player models: press L OR R while you press START. Rumors/Other ------------------ DDR 6th Mix ----------- *Yes this sure is great news!! I can't wait at all for this mix. Its got the older music slect systems like in 2nd mix. Plus there is some new game play inovation. Rumors ------- True - There seems to be a few rumors of a Dance Dance Revoltuion USA2 in the works. True - Unbelievably but DDR 5th Mix is out in the states. Look as www.ddrfreak.com for info. False - Orion.78 Civilization Mix might never see the light of Arcades. :( Home/true arcade/false - Theres a rumor that a DDR Disney Rave might be released in North America False - There are also reports of a domestic release of ParaPara Paradise for the PS2 in North America. I really wonder how this is going to be done on a home console DDR 4th Mix Operator Control ---------------------------- Main Menu I/O Check - Controller check. Allows operator to manually check all 4 directions on both sides, the select buttons, the start buttons, the coin 1 trigger, and the test and service mode buttons Screen Check - The generic screen alignment hash pattern test which is in all Konami games. I thought it was identical, but in actual fact it's SLIGHTLY more fancy than the generic Konami one. Braaaaaaaavooooooo! Color Check - Displays a RGB color palette to allow operator to check for monitor malfunction (manually). Flash ROM Check - Checks to see if Flash ROM is available and/or corrupt in the machine. (Flash ROM is similar to RAM; a user can write to it. In DDR, edit data is stored on it) Dip Switch Check - Reports status of all hardware dip switch settings. Dip switches are a series of switches on a PCB which are set to on/off, and their positions can define some essential options such as reigon, control type, etc. If it's possible to access (and safefly at that) the dipswitches while in this menu, you could check their effects in realtime. CG Check - Displays two texture mapped 3D rotating cubes. Memory Card Options Game Options Difficulty Level [def. 4] - 1 (Easiest) to 8 (Hardest) Max Stage [def. 3] - Number of stages in main game (1 to 5) Max Stage(Nonstop) [def. 4] - Number of stages in nonstop game (2 to 5) Clear Player's Tendency - Resets the songs in the "Player's Best" category, which is generated from the 30 most popular songs (20 of which must be new songs, the other 10 are from previous DDRs). Songs picked in Internet Ranking/ Link mode do not accumulate in this counter. Sound Options Atrract Mode Sound [def on] - Disables/enables sound on demo screens. Sound Scale Check - Runs a sound scale through the speakers. Stereo/Mono [def Stereo/Stereo Only] - On some machines appears to be locked to Stereo (Solo machines?) Coin Options Free Play [def. off] - Allows game to be played for free. Enabling this disables the other two options (on/off) Coin Slot1 [def. 2 coin/1 credit] - Defines how many coins it takes to get how many credits. (16 coin/1 credit - 1 coin/1 credit - 1 coin/4 credit) Joint Game Premium [def. off] - Allows two players to play for the same price as one and get the same number of stages. Also affects double mode. - Not present on Solo machines Bookkeeping - Records the income the machine has generated on a day by day basis. Resets when the machine is turned off. Lamp Check - Tests the 4 lamps up the top, the neon tubes in the bass speakers, the stage lights and the select/start button lights. All Factory Settings - Restores all settings to what they were when manufactured (ie, default). Game Mode - Returns to the game itself (exit menu). Memory Card Options Memory Card Check - Checks if a memory card is present in the 1P slot, and if it's correctly formatted. Flash Card Check - Checks for a flash card. Probably also checks if it works. Use Memory Card [def on?] - Does the game check if a Memory Card is in? (This should be turned off if the cabinet has no slot for it!) Use Flash Card [def on] - Enables any edit data stored to the Flash Card. Store Edit Data - Stores edit data from the 1P memory card slot (if a card is inserted) to the machine. If it has trouble detecting it, it will request if you wish to try again (def no). Press any of the 2P start/select buttons to change to yes and keep hammering 1P start until it accepts, because it's a bit dodgy. After it's loaded, it's as simple as highlighting your edit data and pressing start. Wait 3 seconds for it to work...you can store up to 8 edits per song, however I have never seen more than 4. WARNING: Do not save any over existing Konami edit names (eg PF-PARAS for Paranoia MAX). It will load that one instead of the real one when selected! This can be a very evil trick to play on people though! Delete Edit Data - Deletes any edit data on the Flash Card. Allows you to select what to delete. All edit data is categorized by song. You are asked for confirmation as well. Clear Edit Data - Erases all edit data on the Flash Card. Factory Setting - Resets everything to default. Save And Exit Exit - Cancel changes. Edit steps can take up as little as 8kb each, so it's unlikely the machine will ever fill up. The machine only scans the memory card in slot 1. If you go to 'Add Memory card' (or something like that) another menu will come up displaying the songs, the data's name, and if it's single or double. The rest is pretty easy to figure out. (Note that you seem to need some kind of memory plugin to save data, and the machine might not be standardly sold with it) The secrets menu allows you to unlock the following songs: - If You Were Here ~B4 Za Beat Mix~ - Dam Dariam (KCP Mix) - Hero (Happy Grandale Mix) - Let's Talk It Over - Leading Cyber - .59 - Holic - Era (nostalmix) - Never Let You Down - Make Your Move - Don't Stop! ~AMD 2nd MIX~ - Get Me In Your Sight ~AMD Cancun MIX~ You will require a password but i have no idea what it is. 6th mix extras ------------------ Unlock hidden songs To unlock the songs on this mix, the machine operator must do the following: Enter test mode. Move the cursor to GAME OPTIONS. Hold the 1st player down button and the service button, then push the 1st player . This brings you to the append page where you can input the code. Use 1st play and to move the cursor, and the to scroll through letters. Enter the code: PGEKMMN-INGLOMI. On the 1st player side, hold down and and push If you've done this correctly, you should have Max300, true trance sunrise mix, and candy available during normal play. =================================================== 11.
