Man Charged in Decade-Long
Abduction Case
February 11th,
2000
TOKYO (Reuters) A
Japanese man alleged to have abducted a schoolgirl and
hidden her in his room for almost a decade in the home he
shared with his mother was arrested on Friday.
37 year old Nobuyuki Sato was charged with kidnapping and
batter of a minor.
The girl was taken in November 1990 at a baseball game
she was attending with two friends in the city of Sano,
about 30 miles from the home of Sato.
He abducted her as she was walking home. He took her at
knife point and kept her in his home for 10 years. He
would give her baths, cut her hair and share his clothes
with her.
She was beaten viciously and was afraid for her life and
dared not try to escape for fear of retaliation from Sato.
On the day Sato was arrested, he had taken the girl out
of the room for the first time. He had gone to a hospital
for treatment, not sure if it was for him or her, when he
went ballistic and the police were called.
The girl is now home with her parents and undergoing
treatment to overcome the psychological scars that
certainly will be afflicting her for years to come.
Fat Home-Brewer Evades Jail
February 18th, 2000
STOCKHOLM (Reuters):
A 51-year-old Swedish woman escaped a jail sentence for
home brewing illegal alcohol because she was too fat.
The woman and her husband were sentenced to two and a
half months each for making and selling moonshine from
their flat in Norrland, far north Sweden. But the woman
argued in a court of appeal she should not go to prison
because her weight of 350 pounds meant she needed help
with personal hygiene and dressing, tabloid paper
Expressen said. The court let off her jail term, instead
fining her 15,000 crowns ($1,737).

Boy Dragged To Death From Car
February 22, 2000
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP)
- A six-year-old boy who became tangled
in a seat belt outside his mother's car as the vehicle
was being stolen died Tuesday after being dragged for
miles at speeds up to 80 mph.
The boy was "hanging out of the side of the car
bouncing" down Interstate 70 as horrified motorists
honked their horns and flashed their lights at the
fleeing vehicle, said Fred Byam, one of four men who
helped capture the man suspected of stealing the vehicle.
Jake D. Robel was killed after he was
dragged more than four miles.
Four men in two trucks and a car finally surrounded the
stolen vehicle after it left the highway and stopped at a
stoplight on a busy Independence road.
One of the men got a rope from his car and tied the
suspect's legs when he tried to run.
The suspect was trying to push the boy out of the car
when the boy became tangled in the seat belt, authorities
said. The suspect was in custody.
The car was stolen when the boy's mother left it running
while she ran into a store to get a sandwich

Would-Be Serial
Killer Only Does One
February 17th, 2000
PARIS (Reuters)
Talk about stupidity. Some dumb Frenchman wanted to
become a famous serial killer. Saying he was inspired by
the Hollywood movie "Seven".
The Frenchman Pierre Navelot admitted to a court that he
and a friend killed a woman but ran off when someone came
to her door and knocked before he could cut her head off.
His dream was to kill as many women as he could and
collecting their heads, possibly sending one to his
former girlfriend. He had a list of about 20 victims.
"You can't live just being nobody at all," he
was quoted as saying.
Well, he was caught! Pierre Navelot, a Single murder
Serial Killer, he got his 15 minutes of fame or should I
say he got 30yrs.

Solar Storms
Earth in Line of Fire
February 2nd, 2000
Next week the Sun wll enter its peek of
its 11-year cycle, a period of furious activity and
violent storms. This storm will hurl billions of tons of
radioactive particles, X-rays and magnetic energy toward
Earth.
Scientists say that such blasts can disable satellites,
knock out our communication and navigational systems and
create blackouts by whacking out electrical grid.
There are about 800 satellites in orbit around Earth. We
rely heavily on technology more and more each year that
any type of disruption to our normal everyday routines
could be devastating. Cellphones, laptops, computers,
television and radios are susceptible to major damage.
In an attempt to diminish any sort of catastrophe,
satellites and power plants may be powered down.
There is little evidence that solar storms affect humans
on the ground or airplanes, but they could kill our
astronauts if they happen to be spacewalking at the time.
So don't plan any space walk for the next couple of weeks.
My advice is stay home and get some SPF
with at least a 2000 rating
Is There Life on
Jovian Moon?
January.27th, 2000
Could it be possible? Could life really exist beyond
Earth?
Well, some scientist think so! New research indicates
that possible on Europa, one of the 16 moons of Jupiter,
life could exist. Billions of charged particles coming
down on the Europa from Jupiter could provide the
necessary biological fuel to spawn life.
