Diane Grindol grew up in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. She met a male cockatiel named “Clement” when she moved to Monterey California in 1982 and within a couple weeks acquired her own normal gray hen Dacey. Life hasn’t been the same since. Diane wrote a pet column for the American Cockatiel Society for six years and produced a set of videos about cockatiel care and breeding in 1988. She founded the Monterey Bay Cage Bird Club and was its program coordinator for 10 years.

Diane traveled to Guatemala in 1993 with a UC Davis field biologist Dr. Ann Brice to observe parrots in the wild, an inspiring and treasured experience in her bird life. She observed nesting pairs of yellow-naped Amazons, flocks of white-fronted Amazons and half moon conures. She wrote and spoke about the experience to bird clubs throughout California and the Chicago area. Since 1996 Diane has coordinated companion bird seminars in Northern California, Seattle and Chicago. She frequently speaks to bird clubs and at national conventions or seminars.

Since 1995 Diane has written a column for Bird Talk Magazine. Her book “The Complete Book of Cockatiels” was published in 1998. “Cockatiels For Dummies” was published in July 2001. The books are consistently best-selling cockatiel books on amazon.com. Diane is a co-author of a book published in March 2003 by Simon & Schuster, a parrot behavior book and owner’s manual for parrot owners called “Birds Off The Perch.” Her co-authors are psychologist Dr. Larry Lachman and veterinarian Dr. Frank Kocher, both of Monterey, California. “Teaching Your Bird to Talk” co-authored with Tom Roudybush was released in December 2003, published by Howell Book House of Wiley Bros. Publishing.

Diane shares her life with a small flock of cockatiels (including 21 year-old Dacey and her descendents), a blue-headed pionus parrot and a guinea pig.
