He's the Real Thing...RCA Records vocalist Tyrese comes bubbling onto the music scene, equipped with stunning good looks, a killer voice and he's fully prepared for the release of his dynamic, self-titled debut album.
You'll place the face, as a result of Tyrese's worldwide exposure in the dramatic Coca-Cola television commercial, in which he boards a bus, wearing headphones, and sits down to sing. The time is right to add his distinctive voice to his mix. The nineteen-year-old Tyrese began his singing career at the age of 14, doing numerous local talent shows and events. Though his mass recognition began via television, music was always his first love. Having grown up in Watts, a section of South Central Los Angeles, and encountering tremendous obstacles, which would have stymied a less determined youth, Tyrese made music his escape, finding peace and serenity in it. His focus and perseverance kept him on the right track, to pursue his ultimate goal of a music career.
The anticipated result is "Tyrese," Tyrese's outstanding self-titled debut LP. The album glows with stellar tracks, which brilliantly showcase Tyrese's strong, mature-beyond-his-years vocals. It features the brilliant uptempo first single, "Nobody Else," in addition to songs of special note: The snappy, dramatic "Lately," the soulful, breezy "Nothin' Like A Jones;" "You Get Yours," which samples the Ashford and Simpson hit "Street Corner;"smooth ballad "I Can't Go On;" the harmonious "Sweet Lady," produced by prolific team The Characters; the r&b/rap ditty "Promises," on which he is joined by female rapper Sheleen; and it culminates warmly with the thoughtful "Stay In Touch," written for his mother, sung from his heart and produced by veteran Michael Powell, of Anita Baker hit fame. Add contributions from producers Red Zone Entertainment ("Give Love A Try" and "I Can't Go On") and a song ("Tell Me,Tell Me") written by ex-AZ Yet member Marc Nelson, which includes his young RCA Records labelmates Before Dark, and the pot is brimming full. The effervescent album serves up a bountiful cornucopia of sounds from an exceptionally gifted young man.
The lift-off for a sizzling, exciting ride begins with the album's first single, "Nobody Else," co-written by Tyrese and a talented team from Lionel Job Productions. Tyrese also wrote and performs the rap on this maiden voyage into hitsville. The song displays all the essence of hip-hop and r&b with great energy; its infectious beat is one that lures the listener into repeated plays. It will set the stage for the other exciting album offerings. And special attention should be paid to the crossover/pop hits mentioned above, "Lately" and "Sweet Lady," which highlight the broad range exhibited by Tyrese.
Tyrese is a multi-faceted artist--he is also a songwriter, musician, actor and model. His writing skills are apparent on his debut album! On the thespian front, he's made guest appearances on television shows "Martin" and "Hanging With Mr. Cooper" and his modeling has him currently featured in the Tommy Hilfiger ads, both in print and on television.
The tall, striking, energetic teen is also a community activist, assisting inner city youth at every opportunity by making appearances, such as playing in charity celebrity basketball games and visiting schools. He aims to impart his "can do" attitude to others of his generation. And with the steady guidance of his capable, experienced management team of Greg Parks, Gayle Atkins and Frank Gatson of FDG Management, Tyrese cannot fail to do the right thing.
The music of Tyrese will quench the musical thirst in 1998 and beyond. Pour it on--Drink in and savor the refreshing "Real Thing" of "Tyrese."
