Preschoolers and kindergarten students learn the letters and sounds through hands-on activities and tactile stimulation, along with oral and visual exercises. Methods that have been proven most effective are used, including sandpaper letters as used in Montessori classrooms. The drawing and writing books were developed for the prewriter and teach the basic strokes needed for proper letter formation. All the materials to make the Touch 'N' Sound Cards are included for students to make their own tactile alphabet. These cards not only make it possible for the student to read and spell even before he/she has the dexterity to write, but they also encourage a multi-sensory exploration of the alphabet and its sounds. Compare this to workbooks in which the only kinesthetic activity is handwriting, for which many preschoolers are not physically ready.
