RANT-A-THON: Saturday, April 2, 2005 – 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
KINKS International, 629 15th Street (corner of 15th and G)

Straight Out Scribes present the First ever “Rant-a-Thon read-a-thon, speak-a-thon, radical, revolutionary, progressive, speak up, speak out, poetry reading and art exhibit. There’ll be something for everyone. All welcome and admission is free, the speakers pay to speak.

The art exhibit will display drawings and writings by Mumia Abu-Jamal, oil paintings by William Phillip Africa of the MOVE Family Africa, Mondo we Langa from Nebraska State Prison, poetry by Marilyn Buck, photographs by V.S. Chochezi, posters by artist Negesti Abebech of Seattle, graphic art by Staajabu. Some art will be for sale. We still have room for 3 more vendors, so pass the word. Vendor space $25, bring own table and chair.

BJ has already signed up for 30 minutes on the program and will be showing the video, “Women in the Panther Party” at 2 p.m. Early bird special: sign up for 5 minutes at a dollar a minute and get 5 minutes free. Offer good through March 27. Proceeds will benefit political prisoners. Yeah, Mumia is still on death row, and we still plan to see to it that he gets a fair trial. MATERIAL DIFFERENCES: Sunday, April 10, 2005 – 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street
African Heritage Festival – FREE ADMISSION, ALL AGES ALL DAY!
The museum will have the “Material Differences” special exhibit of sculptures, carvings and paintings from Ghana, the Congo and other African countries sponsored by Morgan Stanley and the Observer Newspapers. There will be music, dance, storytellers, a puppet show, art making, and POETRY. Straight Out Scribes will perform at 11:30 and 1:30 p.m.

LIL BOBBY HUTTON DAY: Saturday, April 16, 2005 – 1:00 p.m.
Lil Bobby Hutton Day, West Oakland Library, 1801 Adeline Street, Oakland, CA, ,
to commemorate the life of Black Panther Lil Bobby Hutton who was killed at the age of 17 by the Oakland Police, in 1968. There will be speakers, music, vendors, poetry (Straight Out Scribes will step to the mic at 2 p.m.) and more.

Winners of the essay and poetry contest, “Why is Bobby Hutton an Oakland Legend” will be announced. For more information contact www.itsabouttimebpp.com.

CCAC POETRY READING AND OPEN MIC: Saturday, April 16, 2005 – 7:00 p.m.
Capital City Artist Collective, 4320 Stockton Blvd, (1 block south of the “Touch of class”.

All day fun in the sun! Music, vendors, health information, healthy foods, speakers, poets, demonstrations, drummers, dancers, and did I say poets? Admission is absolutely free, but parking?
