The Custom Shop

Available at The Custom Shop,

Firearms-Accessories-Duty Gear

The Custom Shop is a full line retail shop for all firearms and accessories. If we do not have it in stock, then we can certainly order it for you. The same is true with duty gear. Due to excellent distributor relations, low overhead and a conservitive lifestyle, we can offer our merchandise at the lowest possible prices. If there is anything which you are interested in, contact us and see what we can do for you. You may be pleasantly surprised. Yes, we will ship to you. However, I must advise you beforehand, we do not accept credit cards. I don't use them and I do not take them in the shop. When we agree on a price, you send me a check or money order and when I recieve that, then I ship your merchandise.

If, for your organization or association, you need quantity especially with respect to duty gear, we can do that too.

Gunsmithing

The bulk of gunsmith work here is related to repair. I do perform some special work from time to time. This is by far mostly for duty use. Pistols and revolvers particularly. I also tune rifles and shotguns for duty use. My speciality is 1911 model pistols. I am afraid that I am from the "old school" in that respect. By that I mean that 1911 models are complete with what they have. I do not like nor do I believe that they need all those aftermarket bells and whistles. The parts they have are completely adequate, providing they all work in complete congruance with each other. This means WORK. And this is what I do. I work them. Yes, I do install beavertail grip safties but to me they are in the way and add unnecessary weight. If you find that a 1911 "pinches" the web of your hand, you are not holding it properly. We're talking about DUTY guns. Ones you work with. They need to function when you need them to, they need to shoot where you need them to, and you need to have a relationship with it.

Building The Custom Shop 1911:
Personally, I start with the Auto Ordnance standard 1911. The steel in them has good integrity, they are military spec, they have a good initial fit of all of the parts and they are priced so as to help keep the price as low as possible. The pistol is completely disassembled, all finish is removed and the fun begins. The frame is shaved so that it is true and the magazine well is polished. The slide is shaved so that it is true and contoured at the front so that it gives a place to hold and operate the slide back. Of course, this also removes weight. When the slide and frame are made to fit as closely as possible and still function under all possible duty circumstances, they are then heat treated and hardened. Every part is fitted and polished to work in congruance with each other. Everything should fit so that all you have to do is to almost just wish them to work. This is the beginning of the relationship.

(There is one thing I do which is unique to The Custom Shop 1911 which improves the "pointability" significantly)

Locksmithing

We offer full locksmithing services, with emphasis on Security.

Custom Leatherwork

My leatherwork started back in the early '70s with the sheath I needed for the first knife I built. Became more interested and built other things (holsters, slings, etc.). Then one day, this finest of ladies whom I had known for several years, found a leather shop stored in a warehouse her company had bought. Toni L. Rose made me a gift of that shop. I still use it to this day. Today, it is an integral part of The Custom Shop.

I've built everything you can imagine and some you couldn't. For the last several years, most of my work has been special firearms carry oriented. Concealed carry and enhanced firearm carry rigs. Occassionally, I will do a "western" rig. Of course, I will still entertain most any request which is sincere. And, there is a waiting list. Today, it is about 4 months.

Information and Free Coffee...

Yes, certainly, the coffee is free. There is a donation jar nearby if you so desire to donate to it.

The Information also is free. Well, almost free. Some of the information available here may make you responsible for it's knowledge. When one walks in the door of the Shop, it is obvious that abuse and victimization are well represented. One could well spend a full day "reading the walls". I have been involved in a personal war against sexual abuse for well over a quarter of a century. Domestic violence and sexual abuse. You can not fight one without coming up against the other. I have worked it enough that I know it by it's appearance in every walk of Life. I have the Rage associated with it. I have tempered it so that it is obvious only to myself. I have developed my own ways and means and I expend energy world wide to perpetuate the constant battle. There has been certain "machinery" set in motion that once begun, cannot be stopped. There WILL be a Reckoning.

I stay as abreast as I can on firearms industry information. It's my responsibility to see that there is available as accurate and as current information possible is here at the Shop. These are tools. They have to be available before they can be used. Issues and Answers.

And last but certainly not least, Enter, The Criminal Justice System...
I have always been involved with criminal justice. I have studied and worked it in very diversified areas. In short, I know it. Objectively.

Criminal Justice. In itself, that is a contradiction. Once a crime has been committed, there is no real justice to offset it's commission. Real Justice is served in preventing the Crime from being committed. THIS is Justice.
Keyword? Behaviour.

Thank you for coming by.

Please, come again!

At your service,

Michael A. Carter
