Materials needed:
1 2"x6"x6' for the header
30 or more 3" drywall screws
2 4"x4"x6' posts
2 6"x"6 angle brackets
2 Adjustable 4x4 post anchors with 1 inch stand-off plate
2 21/4" anchor bolts or 2 lag screws with sleeves.
4 21/2" lag screws and washers
Tools Needed:
Tape measure
Stud locator (if you cannot locate them manually)
Screw Gun
1/2" Hammer drill
9/16 wrench
Level
1/2" mason bit
1/4" wood bit
plumb bob and string
First locate the five foot area you want the
dummy to occupy. Locate and mark the suds for at least six feet (3 feet from
center of your planed site).
Your header board should be able to secure
to studs on the outsides of the proposed post (vertical columns of the stand).
If your site is acceptable secure the header
panel with screws at 6'1" (or the proper height for your equipment) from
the floor.
Layout all components as you plan to install them. Make ruff in marks to get
proper measurements .
Next install the 6x6 angle brackets on the
header joist. Spacing them on center of your planned post positions.
Using a plumb bob find the center of post
anchor positions by suspending it from center of the 6x6 angle brackets. Mark
the spot and drill 1/2 hole. Repeat the process for the other side.
Install the post anchors with the 1/2 anchor
bolts. Then insert the 4x4 and secure them with the drywall screws.
Secure the top of the 4x4's to the 6x6 angle
brackets with drywall screws.
Slide the support rails thru the dummy and
insert the upper arms. Have the dummy lifted in front of the stand. Get into
your horse and raise/lower the dummy until the upper arms are just above your collarbones.
Mark the support rains on the posts.
Drill 1/4 holes through the support rails
and then trough the posts.
Install 3/8 lag screws and washers.
All finished. Enjoy your labor.
