HUSKEY CHAPEL CEMETERY
transcribed 14 September 1999 by Lana Floyd
This cemetery is located on top of Lookout Mountain in De Kalb County
Alabama, within the city limits of Fort Payne.
From U. S. Highway 11, take
3rd Street going east, merge into East Adamsburg Road. At the five way
intersection, turn right on Dogtown Road and travel about 1.5 miles until
you reach Jennings Road which deadends across from the entrance to the
cemetery.
At one time, a church named Huskey's Chapel was adjacent to
the cemetery and the old road went past the church, but that structure is
no longer present and the road was rerouted to its current roadbed about
1950. The cemetery is sometimes referred to as the "Jennings Cemetery"
possibly due to its location at the end of Jennings Road or several
"Jennings" buried there.

MILLER CEMETERY
In Dade County, GA, Dist. # 11, near Rising Fawn, is the Miller
Cemetery.
The cemetery is located about 5 miles east of Rising Fawn adjacent to
what
was once the Miller Plantation owned by John Miller and his wife,
Nancy Mary
nee Wilson.
John was born in 1806 TN to James Miller, SC, TN, SC, a stauch
Scots-Irishman by descent. Nancy Mary was born in 1806 to Joseph
Wilson, a
farmer and trader in Indian Territory, TN. They were married in 1826,
and
they are found on the 1830 census for Monroe County, TN.
In 1835, John and Nancy Mary purchased 420 acres of land in Dade
County
and moved there with three young sons and a daughter. Five more
children
were born to the Millers while they lived in Dade County. John was a
substantial farmer and a county probate judge in Dade County until
1859 when
the family migrated to AR. Five of the sons served the CSA. Five of
the
Miller offspring married Dade Countians.
About 1850, Elizabeth Anne Miller married Casper Tatum of Dade
County.
In 1851, Elizabeth died giving birth to their first child, a daughter,
named
Nancy Tatum. The beautiful Miller Cemetery was created for Elizabeth.
Wrought iron fences surround the cemetery which sits high above the
surrounding area giving a visitor a panoramic view of the majestic
countryside. A large iron entry has the name, Miller, high in the
arch
above the entry.
In 1987, when Stan and Cynthia Forde of Texas visited Dade County,
local historians asked about why there were no Millers buried in their
own
cemetery. (The Rev.) Cynthia Forde was able to tell them, "There is a
Miller buried there; evidently, one of the small boulders, or rocks,
is the
grave marker." The Fordes gave the Dade County Historical Society a
copy of
a book written by one of the Miller sons describing life in Dade
County
around 1845-59.
In 1998, the Fordes learned why the cemetery was landscaped so
beautifully. Their oldest son, Scott, contracted Leukemia and died
five
months later. Scott wanted to be buried on the family ranch. Scott
wanted a
simple boulder for a headstone. A new two acre cemetery was created
and
named, Scott's Grove where Scott was placed on September 1, 1998. A
simple
boulder marks the spot.
