*Background*
Brian Thomas Littrell was born on February 20, 1975, in Lexington, Kentucky;
and from the very beginning two things were evident: he loved to play basketball,
and also loved to sing. In fact, Brian's nickname, "B Rok", stems from his love
of the hoops.
As a young boy, Brian( who has never had a singing lesson) got his first singing
opportunities at his local church, and he was frequently asked to perform at weddings
and other area religious services. Faith has remained an integral part of Brian's life,
and he has said it was his family's faith that helped him fully recover from a potentially
debilitating childhood illness.
Brian has long been a music lover, and he cites harmony groups like Take 6, Shai and Boyz 2 Men
as his primary musical influences. So, it seems, it was destiny that Brian would go on to join
one of the late 90's top harmony groups. It took one call from his cousin, Kevin Richardson, for
Brian to relocate to Orlando, Florida; and join the new group. Now, he's known for being perhaps
the shyest Backstreet Boy, and he's definitely the one who smiles the most on stage.
After two years in the global spotlight, Brian said he is simply glad to be going to work
every day and doing what he loves most. In mid-May of 1998, Brian had to undergo a difficult
heart surgery, but the operation was a success, and he was back on the road with the Backstreet
Boys when their U.S. tour kicked off in July 1998. Instead of flowers or gifts, the Littrell family
asked that donations be sent to the Brian Littrell Endowment Fund for Pediatric Cardiology, which was
set up in Brian's name.
