You remember that great song from '78 by drummer Hamilton Bohannon, "Let's Start the Dance?" Well that was its title, but everyone really remembers that intro chorus instead -- "Come on and do it, come on and do it, come on and do it, do it, do it, Come on and do it." Still don't remember?
Well, anyone who does remember certainly can't forget it's female vocalist singin', "Waaaaiiiillll I've beeeen watchin' youuuu alllll nite, don't yaa waanna daiiince." The way she dragged out those vowels with that larger-than-life, curious southern drawl caught everyone's attention. Especially that of Bohannon, who produced and wrote Caroline's two albums for Mercury records later that year.
Both of the beautiful Ms. Crawford's albums, My Name is Caroline (1978) and Nice & Soulful (1979), are a cross between laid-back, Bohannon-style disco grooves, some pretty tunes, Chicago steppers' stepping anthems, and a few songs that should have stayed in the outtake box. No matter. "Let's Start the Dance" wasn't a disco hit or selected to be in the disco movie 54 for nothing. Caroline's big ole voice made that song.
