Depression

Deficiency of the nervous system traditionally associated with a surfiet of the "melancholic" humor in Galenical medicine (Galen, Gr. Physician, 130?-200? A.D.)

KEY SYMPTOMS:
Misery, feeling down
Inability to cancentrate
Lack of interest in the present
Withdrawn, silent demeanor
Poor digestion, with constipation

Basil is an antidepressant and is spiritually uplifting, especially effective for the lower chakras (center point of spiritual power and energy in the body).
Take up to 3ml tincture three time a day or take as an infusion.
Can combine with lemon balm or rose petals in an infusion.


Insomnia

Insomnia can be associated with over excitement, anxiety, and worries, or have physical manifestations, such as pain, which needs treating.

KEY SYMPTOMS:
Inability to fall asleep
Frequent wakefulness during the night
Restlessness, vivid dreamy sleep.

Passionflower is a sedative, hypnotic, and anodyne (somehting relieving or lessening pain), calms the nervous system and promotes sleep.
Take an infusion or tincture before going to bed.
Passionflower can be used as a simple or add chamomile or lemon balm to the infusion if desired.

Wild Lettuce, once know as "poor man's opium", is still used as a sedative. The fresh herb is especially potent when it goes to seed.
Take an infusion or tincture before going to bed.
Can be combined with additional calming herbs such as chamomile, lemon balm, and or black cohosh to increase the tranquilizing action.

Chamomile, a well known sedative, carmative (causing gas to be expelled), and antispasmotic. Good for over exitement and nervous stomach.
Use as a simple or combine with lemon balm.

Lemon Balm, is an antidepressant and restorative for the nervous system.
Use as a simple tincture or combine with other sedative nervines.
