I've Kept The News From You

September 25, 2001 -- The Red Album is out and is amazing.

--

August 15, 2001 --- The Red Album will be out on September 25. The first single, "Hang On To This" is being added to radio stations nation-wide. Go to iDaysoftheNew.com or DaysoftheNew.com for more info.

--

March 1, 2001-- iDaysoftheNew.com is up and running. This is the new site put together by the Days of the New Collective (but mostly by Gayle Gadlage, credit where credity truly is due!). The Red Album is basically done, but the record company is wasting time. There was a mysterious poster leaving cryptic messages on the Unified Board for a while. No one really knows what to make of it.

--

Dec. 27, 2000--The Red Album should be out in February or March. There is also a new article in the article archive.

--

Nov. 26--Travis appears with The Doors on VH1 Storytellers to perform "The End". Click here to see pictures from the show.

--

Oct. 17, 2000--C14 has changed their name to Tantric and have finished recording their first album. It was produced by Toby Wright and will be released in February on Maverick Records. Listen to them here.

--

July 10, 2000--The Red Album, number 3, is being mixed and should be released at the end of August. Some of the 13 tracks include Words, Fighting with Clay (the first single), Best of Life, The Place with the Sky, Dancing with the Wind, Surface Skimming, Champaigne, Dirty Road, Angry Light, Where Are You?, and Give In. That's the latest info.

--

July 3, 2000--Hey, how's it going? Everything is good here. I'm sure that you're tired of coming here hoping for news and not finding any. My solution is this: go one step closer to the source. Check out Rhiannon's site which features a nice Days of the New section, as well as a message board devoted to answering questions and giving news to the fans. I feel that this is a better way to bring the news to you and it provides a more interactive forum. Have a happy Independence Day!

--

June 21, 2000--OK, as you know, this site hasn't been updated much recently. The reason is because I find out most of my general information from the same sources that you do (mainly message boards, which is unconfirmed at best) and to put it all in the news section would simply be repeating what you've already heard elsewhere. Other information I've been asked not to share, and mystery is part of the beauty of Days of the New.

--

As for the message board, it's here for those who want to use it. I'm not changing the format, and if that leads people not to post, then so be it. There are other boards at other sites that may be better suited to certain people's needs. That's fine with me. It's not a competition. The Rough Day site is a great site and I support it 100%. I encourage each of you to visit it. If you haven't yet, go to the links section of this site. In conclusion, I would just like to say that I am still very much a part of the Days of the New scene, although mainly lurking out of view. I still go to all the major sites almost every day, reading all the message boards and taking in what I see and read. This site may no longer be cutting edge, but when the time is right, any doubts will be put to rest. Keep the vibe alive.

--

May 11, 2000--Finally an update! Once again, this is message board news, but since it was not from this site, I've posted in the news section. I think it's from a reliable source.
TOUR/// Looks like a fresh start in August for the tour. Rough plans for a 42 date tour to start. Possible plans for 2 weeks in clubs & theaters to start off. A possible pick up 30 date leg W/ Creed After the two weeks. Tour plans will vary and also continue forwared after this / STATES CANADA / RADIO SHOWS / Foreign countries not yet decided.
RELEASE DATE/// August / details later DOORS TRACK /// Electra is all over the place w/ the release date on this bad boy. "The End" is the only decided track,so far.
THE ALBUM #3/// The album is red , but there is more to it then just the color this time, there is a semi name. The tree still exists which is real in essence, only flawed within it's own self character, which life will always have to offer /but now a new metaphor of the other side has come forward ,of the fake and pretentious / only created by man. And the flag still standing, representing ones own world.
/// 13 tracks + interludes

AND FOR THE LAST QUESTION// No need to make other contacts, I am the information.

--

March 21, 2000--The Doors tribute will be out this summer, according to the MTV website.

--

And now for some semi-exclusive news: Days of the New will be appearing on Rockline next Monday, March 27. This was announced on the show last night and is not even posted yet on the Rockline website, but you can still go to the site to find out if a station in your area plays Rockline. If not, I think you can listen to it online somehow. The site should have that kind of information though. I am looking forward to this interview, because Travis was just on in Sept. after the new album came out, so there's obviously something new going on. If you remember the April 1998 appearance, you'll recall that "Phobics of Tragedy" was premiered almost a year and a half before the album came out...so maybe there will be something new this time around. At least we will learn about what is to come. Some of you better think of some good questions and call in! The people that visit this site are probably some of the more intellectual/spiritual DotN fans, so there should be some deeper questions than the usual if some of you all call in.

--

March 11, 2000--I am sorry for not updating very often. You probably think that I have become like some of the other Days of the New webmasters out there. Actually, I have a reason. The fans are doing my job for me. Most of the news is posted by fans on the message board, which makes it pointless to repeat it here. Besides, it's often difficult to verify rumors posted on the message board, so I just let them stand on their own merit. I am proud to think that this site has grown to the point of such organic fan interaction. I am still active, everyday. I am just as eager as everyone else to read the updates on the message board. Well, that's it for now.

--

Jan. 24, 2000--Happy New Year. I just heard "Weapon & the Wound" on the radio last night. The station was playing new music, so if you haven't heard it yet, you probably will. The orchestration seemed to be mixed down more than on the album and the song was edited for length, just like "The Down Town" was (personally, I don't like these edits as much as the album versions). Also, the line "find my place in life" was taken out. The edited versions just don't seem quite as good to me. Think of all the great epic rock songs..."Stairway to Heaven, Freebird, etc..." How would they be if they were cut apart like that?

--

Anyway, check out the message board for information about some upcoming releases.

--

Dec. 30, 1999--This is the last news of 1999. It has been a good year for Days of the New and I hope that it was a good year for each of you as well.

--

I listened to the intro to "Phobics of Tragedy" (which is a collage of forward and backward sounds) backwards, and I deciphered some of what is on it. Alot of the sounds themselves are cymbals and distortion. There are also sections of dialogue, similar to the dialogue that is heard forwards normally. Some of the backwards dialogue, however, includes the following:
"There ain't nobody in here..."
"Help!"
"I'm scared."
"What are you going to do about it?"
"I'm afraid."
"You're a stupid son of a bitch."

So there you have it. There is more but it was hard to understand, much like the forwards parts. Anyway, there's some interesting trivia to amaze your friends with over the New Year. Travis once said in a interview that the new album was ready to face the Millennium. I guess we'll find out.

--

Nov. 21, 1999--The tour is ON!!! Travis is on the road with the new seven-piece band. There are two additional guitarists to allow Travis to focus on singing, although he may pick up a variety of instruments from time to time.

--

The Doors tribute is scheduled for a Spring 2000 release.

--

The new issue of Metal Edge has a huge article about Days of the New. Some of the topics include the 'Director's Cut' of the green album, which will have an extended battle scene intro. This will begin with the sounds of birds from the end of the hidden track on the first album, to serve as a bridge between the two albums! The EP (with heavier, electric songs) is still waiting to be released, and Travis is working on material for the third album. There is no word yet on what the next single will be, but I am already anticipating and I want to hear from you all...so post your opinions on the message board!

--

Oct. 15, 1999--Check out some of the new articles, as well as the Tour Information link. Also stay tuned for updates about upcoming releases--new versions of the albums, an EP of old songs, the Doors tribute, the Heavy Metal II soundtrack, and possibly more.

--

Oct. 7, 1999--Sorry about not updating recently, but honestly, there is not much to tell. The album is out, so it's not like there is any exclusive inside information that can be posted, and there are no confirmed tour dates as of yet. The only news is that there will also be a re-release of the first album with the original version of "Touch, Peel, & Stand" and new vocals on all of the songs. There is also a new (fairly bad) review in the article archive and a new link in the links section. I highly recommend this site. It is quite deep.

--

Sept. 18, 1999--The reason that this site has not been updated in a while is because the official site has been updated majorly and blows this site away!!! Don't even bother coming to this site, everything that you could possibly need is at the official site and the only way we could even hope to compare to it would be to steal from it. The Shelf in the Room served its purpose: to keep the vibe alive while fans anticipated the second album. Now there is something new to carry on. We will not abandon this site, but we will also not even try to compete with the official site. We are no longer on the cutting edge, basically.

--

Sept. 7, 1999--There is another new article. On Rockline, Mr. Meeks said that he is going to release another version of the second album; a 'director's cut' as he described it. He also mentioned the ep of older songs that I already told you all about. Sorry about the "Enemy" tab, people seem to get hostile over the smallest things...that's all that I have to say for now because I want to remain positive and some people seem to purposely counterbalance the good vibes.

--

Sept. 5, 1999--There is a new review in the article archive. It's not the greatest but it is something new so it's been posted.

--

Everyone had better go out and buy your 90-minute cassette tapes, because Days of the New will be on Rockline tomorrow night (search Yahoo for the Rockline site to find out more).

--

Sept. 1, 1999--Days of the New are scheduled to be on Rockline on Monday, Sept. 6. This should be worth listening to! If you miss it, don't say we didn't tell you!

--

August 31, 1999--Today is a date to be remembered. The new album is out and it is great!!! The artwork is amazing and the music is beyond belief. The credits clearly show how much work went into this album. By the way, two songs, "The Real" and "Last One", were co-written by Todd Whitener. Matt Taul is credited with playing drums. Travis Meeks even thanks all of his former bandmates. The music is incredible and seems to flow together. No one will be disappointed; no true fan, that is...grunge fans may not like it, but then again DotN never was a grunge band to begin with. Well, now that the wait is over, we can jump right ahead into the next adventure. What that may be and where the journey will take us is not clear yet, but keep coming back to this site-everyday-and we will travel together!!!

--

August 28, 1999--The guitar tab for "Enemy" is now available on this site!!!

--

August 27, 1999--Here it is, four days before the release of the album and it seems that the Character has all but disappeared. Rest assured, however, that the Character is working intently on a new project that it sure to take this site to the next level of the journey. Thank you all for the support and for visiting this site. Spread the vibe!!!

--

August 20, 1999-There is a great new article from August 16 in the article archive. It's a really nice and informative piece of writing, so check it out. It is called "A Great New Article".

--

August 20, 1999--This the Character and I would like to address all of the fans who visit this site on a regular basis. First of all, thank you for the interest and support. That's the whole reason that we do what we do here. Second, I would like to say that in the nearly three months that The Shelf in the Room has been operational, we have had over 600 hits to the site. What I am asking of the fans is this: I would like to see 1,000 hits by August 31, the date of release for the new album. So, spread the word to every Days of the New fan out there! Let's try to reach our goal together. Thank you.

--

August 18, 1999--There is a new article in the article archive. Also check out the Green Album page in the links section. It has "Flight Response" and "Enemy" in Real Audio.

--

August 16, 1999--The lyrics to "Flight Response" were posted on the message board today, so I added them to the site! Check them out, they're worth taking a minute to think about.

--

August 13, 1999--Two articles have been added to the article archive. Here's the bad news, though--they aren't new articles. However, as soon as anything new is published, this is the place to go to read it. Mr. Meeks has been doing interviews lately and these should be coming out soon.

--

August 12, 1999--I know, the news hasn't been updated since July 31. Well, I have been trying to find news but there doesn't seem to have been any. There have, however, been a few new pieces of art added to this site and a new editorial, which addresses an important issue that everyone should aware of. Also, our cousin site has been added to the Days of the New webring. Check it out from time to time. I try to remind them to keep up with it, and it is fairly decent considering the circumstances.

--

July 31, 1999--I hope everyone likes all of the new art work that has been appearing on this site over the past few days. We have been searching Celtic sites extensively to find the images that you now see. It adds to the vibe, which will be better understood in exactly one month (August 31, the release date for Days of the New II).

--

July 30, 1999--There is a Days of the New email greeting being sent around. It is a promotion for the new album and features some pretty high quality visuals. I will pass it along to anyone who emails me and asks for it.

--

July 29, 1999--Travis recorded a song about a month ago for the new movie called Heavy Metal II. The song will be the main song of the movie and will be featured during the movie. It will be called Tyler's Theme or Simply A Rough Day. It is really heavy but is acoustical. It features Craig and Ray on it, but it is more like the old style. Travis planning an EP release before he releases the third album featuring songs he wrote in his younger days. It is totally done. The third album is half way done in the writing process. It is alot of melodic songs that are really positive away from the darker approach.

--

July 25, 1999--There has been several new items of interest added to the site, including a link, notes for the upcoming album (thanks, ~k), and a tribute to Travis S. Meeks. Expect a lot more in the near future, though, because the best is yet to come.

--

July 22, 1999--You can go here to order Days of the New II in advance.

--

July 21, 1999--The official sight has been updated, so check it out. "Enemy" will be officially released tomorrow, so if you haven't heard it, you will.

--

July 20, 1999--"Enemy" has been released and is being played on stations around the country. It does have kind of a techno aspect to it, but at the same time, the song has a strong acoustic-guitar sound that is clearly Days of the New. Travis really pulled off the blending with techno well. There is a section in the song that features orchestration also, which should be somewhat of an indication as to what the rest of the forthcoming album may sound like, although I am sure that Travis will surprise in an amazing way.

--

July 13, 1999--Not much new going on at this site, either. On the message board, we told you that the site will not be updated for 3 weeks, which is true, for the most part. It may be updated from time to time, but don't really expect it to be because we are away and have limited access to a computer. We wished to at least let everyone know of this delay in advance. The timing is not too bad, as not much new will probably happen until the new album is released. We will definitely be back on August. 1. Until then, we may or may not update.

--

July 6, 1999--Not much new is going on at the moment. Days of the New are rehearsing for the upcoming tour and the fans are waiting for the new album.

--

June 28, 1999--There will be no hidden track on the new album. The album should still be pretty good, though, and worth waiting for.

--

June 26, 1999--The new album is still due out at the end of August. Travis said that this new release has no title. He refers to it as the "Green Album", as the first album being the "Orange Album". The music has gone toward a Celtic/Middle Eastern vibe.

The album will mark the addition of several new Days of the New members: Craig Wagner on guitar, Ray Rizzo on drums and percussion, Brian Vinson on upright bass, and NicoIe Schurzinger on vocals.

This information was stolen from the Days in Louisville site. It's a great site that is well organized and maintained. All fans should check it out on a regular basis. It's one of the few truly good sites out there.

--

June 21, 1999--Days of the New II is to be released on August 24. Travis wants to release it sooner, but as of now the date is August 24.

Todd Whitener has moved out of his house and moved in with Hugo, the singer for Carbon 14. Hugo is from Detroit. Carbon 14 may release an album in late August or early September.

--

June 18, 1999--Check out the new chat room and guest book! This will probably be the last update for about a week.

--

June 16, 1999--The lyrics to "Enemy" have been posted. Whether these lyrics are authentic has not been determined, but we felt that it was important to post them anyway for the benefit of the fans.

There is also a link to the very first Carbon 14 website. The site is just starting, so be patient and visit it from time to time.

--

June 9, 1999--There is an unreleased song by Days of the New called "Got to be You" on "2 Guitars, Bass and Drums," a benefit CD for Stewart Francke. The complilation features 17 artists and can be found in stores or at www.sflf.com.

According to Jesse Vest, the reason that Days of the New broke up was becasue they had poor interpersonal skills. They just got tired of each other and found it difficult to communicate. He says that he does not talk to Travis anymore. He made the analogy that "We're not married, we don't have any kids together, so I have no real reason to talk to Travis.

The former members of Days of the New have formed a new band, Carbon 14, which will feature Jesse, Todd, Matt, and a new guy named Hugo. Hugo is multi-talented and the band is going to be more 'poppy' than Days of the New.

--

June 7, 1999--According to the Days in Louisville site, the DotN fan club has been put on hold. Apparently this is not a good sign, considering the pending release of the new album. For a little more about this, go to: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/8286/enterthedays.html

--

May 27, 1999--The new Days of the New album has been done for about a week. Travis worked on it in California and finished it off at Distillery Studios in Louisville, Kentucky. The album will feature 12 songs, as well as a secret song.

Meanwhile, Travis has been working on a score for the movie 'Heavy Metal II'.

As far as touring is concerned, all band members have been chosen and have been rehearsing the new material from the album at Distillery Studios and in Tennessee. Hopefully, they will tour starting in July.

May 23, 1999--Basically, we are all waiting for the new Days of the New album to come out. As we all know, it will feature Travis without the previous members of the band, and will move in a more musical direction with the use of Celtic, Middle Eastern, and African instruments and styles. A song called 'Enemy' may be the first single. Other than that, Travis is keeping it all a secret and it will probably be worth the suspense.
