Sunday Worship.
St John's Church, Kiltonga, Newtonards lies on the Old Belfast Road just by Kiltongs Leisure Centre. The Church was built as a Quaker Meeting House in the mid-eighteenth century and stood as a roofless ruin for some years before it was restored by Ards District Council. Although used for other purposes, the Church's most regular use is as the meeting place of St John's Parish, Newtonards which is part of the Church of Ireland (Traditional Rite).
St John's was formed in 1991 following the decision of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland to ordian women to the Priesthood and Episcopate in defience of both Holy Scripture and the unbroken tradition of the Church. St John's worships using the traditional Anglican Prayer Book in its 1926 Irish Edition. The services - held in the simple stone built Chapel - have the dignity which comes through worshipping as our forefathers have worshipped down the ages. There is also a strong emphasis on Bible-centred preaching, and the Reformed Tradition within Anglicanism. Visitors are always most welcome to join us.
"Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise here them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience and the comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen".
(The Collect for the Second Sunday of Advent).
