Part 67

Nick woke up to the alarm and tried to shut it off before it woke Alex up. He glanced over at her, she was still sound asleep. He got up and got dressed quietly. He kissed her on the cheek and then went to find the guys for the interview.

As soon as the door shut Alex sat up, she hadn’t gotten any sleep all night. Now, she was sure of what she had to do. She gathered her things and packed her suitcase rather quickly. Then she called the airlines, her flight didn’t leave until 6:00, but she was calling to change it to an earlier one. She found that there was a 2:00 flight to Tampa with only one stop in Dallas. After she had changed her flight, she sat down to write the hardest letter of her life.

The interview had gone well and Nick headed back to the hotel room to see if Alex wanted to go get something to eat. He walked in and found the room empty. There were several boxes on the bed with a letter on top. He opened the letter a little confused on where Alex could have gone. He read the letter and turned almost white. He looked at the boxes on the bed and turned to storm out the door, he ran into Kristen.

“Hey Nick, I needed to ask Alex…” Nick shoved the letter at her and walked down the hall. Kristen looked at him and then looked down at the letter.

Nick-

This is the hardest thing I will ever do. Last night I realized something. You have another life away from Tampa. Not just another life, but another identity. I can’t fit into that life, or that identity. I attempted to last night, but it didn’t work. The whole night I was miserable not having any idea what to do, how to act, or what to say. You had other things to do and take care of and I was only in the way. I was never cut out for anything like this, I’m sorry. You need someone who can be there for you, who can fit in to your life, both of them. I could never do that. You have a job that you love, tours, interviews, award shows, and most of all your fans. That is a whole side of your life that I can’t be apart of. I do love you Nick, and I always will. I hope that in time you will forgive me, and meet someone who is perfect for you. Someone that is perfect for Nick and someone perfect for Nick Carter the Backstreet Boy. I’m nobody, and you are somebody, not really the mixing type. I’m going back home, I called and got a flight out at 2. I’ve also gotten an apartment near the campus that I will be moving into soon. I left the things that I bought the other day so you can return them, and the ring is on the dresser. I’m sorry, I really am.

All my love, Alex

Kristen didn’t know what to say, she knew something was wrong but she didn’t know something was this wrong. She could tell it had taken a lot for Alex to write this because of the tear-stains on the paper. Kristen then went in search of Brian, maybe he would know what to do.

She found Brian in the lobby looking really confused. “have you seen Nick?” She asked

“Yeah, he just blew thru here. I asked him what was wrong and he said to find you.” Kristen handed him the letter. Brian read over it and just looked at Kristen, “What should we do?” She asked

Brian looked at he door and then a Kristen, “There’s nothing we can do right now.”

“You know Alex pretty well, why would she do this?”

Brian looked at the letter again, “Kris, the only reason she would do this is if she was sure it was the right thing. Alex has never done anything on a mere whim.”

“Then you think this is final?”

Brian sighed, “I don’t know, I sure hope not.”
