Alex looked out the window in the terminal and tried to keep the tears inside. She was in love with a wonderful guy, the only problem- he was a Backstreet Boy. Most people would think the situation perfect, but Alex didn’t. This was the first time Alex had come face to face with Nick Carter the Backstreet Boy. A fear had begun to grow inside her that Alex Paine couldn’t live up to that side of Nick. For the first time she realized how easy it would be for Nick to just move on to somebody else, and forget about her. He saw millions of fans a day while on tour, what would keep him from falling for one of them? What Alex feared most was the thought of Nick, the only guys she ever loved, breaking her heart. Maybe this was just a fling, she didn’t know, but time away from Nick is what she needed. She prayed in her heart that Nick could forgive her for this. Deep down Alex knew this was all for the best.
Nick made his way thru the crowd of people and looked for Alex. He clutched the ring in his right hand a little tighter when he looked around and couldn’t find her. He had checked the listings and found the terminal where she should be waiting since her flight was delayed 30 minutes. It would have helped if he knew what she was wearing. After several minutes Nick spotted a girl in jeans standing next to one of the big platted windows. He made his way towards her and then spun her around to face him, “What are you doing?”
Alex was caught totally off guard and blinked back the tears in her eyes, “What...What are you doing here?”
Nick ignored her question and repeated his, “What are you doing?”
“I’m going home.”
“Oh, just like that? You break the engagement and just leave without even talking to me?”
Alex couldn’t tell if Nick was more hurt or angry but just stood silently looking at the floor.
Tell me something, tell me why the girl I love could just up and break my heart like that!”
Alex looked up, she couldn’t keep the tears back anymore, “I can’t tell you right now Nick, I need some time to think about some things.”
“What ‘things’? I didn’t know we had ‘things’ to think about.”
“I have a lot to think about..” Alex said quietly.
Nick almost went limp, “Lex, why are you doing this? Why didn’t you just talk to me? If you needed time or space you know I would give it to you. Why are you just leaving like this?”
“I don’t know. I thought it would be the best way.”
“The best way for what? You shouldn’t just up and make an executive decision by yourself, I’m in this relationship too.”
“I know.”
Nick watched the tears continue to fall, “Lex, please, tell me what’s wrong.”
Alex shook her head, “Not now, I need to think about some stuff before I talk to you.”
Nick didn’t know what to do, he didn’t know if this was final. This was the first time since he met Alex that he didn’t know what was going on in side her head, “Lex, I need you.”
Alex looked up at him, “Nick don’t..”
“Shut up Alex and let me finish.” Alex was taken back a little but let him finish, “You make me who I am Lexi. You make me happy, you make me want to be a better person, you make me forget about all the bad things, you make me feel normal, and you make me complete. No one else in the world can do that except you. I can’t think of my life without you, and I can’t remember how my life was before you. We have something that no one else has, it’s so special, and it means the world to me. If you choose to walk away from all of it, then that is your decision and I will have to live with it. You have to remember one thing though,” He paused for a minute before continuing, “ I will always love you Alexis, no matter what happens I will always love you.” He looked at her for several seconds before opening up his hand to reveal her engagement ring.
Alex only cried harder, after all she had done, after all they had been thru Nick still loved her and wanted to marry her. HER! A nobody from Orlando!
It seemed to Nick like an eternity before Alex slowly took the ring from his hand and slid it back onto her finger. He didn’t say anything for a minute, but pulled her into his arms and held her tight.
