A policeman was first on the scene, “Ma’am, are you alright? Can you tell me what happened?”
Alex wiped the tears from her face, “He was stalking me, he had a gun and he was going to kidnap me. Colby tried to stop him, but Bobby beat him with the bat, and then I shot him. When I ran to call 911, Bobby must have gotten up because Colby shot him again.” She rambled in a shaky voice. The officer checked Bobby for a pulse, “Is he dead?” Alex asked
The officer nodded, “Yes Ma’am, he is.”
The paramedics showed up on the scene then. They started towards Bobby, but the officer stopped them, “No need. You might want to see to this young man.”
The started towards Alex and Colby, “What happened?”
“He was beaten with a bat.”
The paramedics started poking and pushing on Colby until he groaned, “Looks like some broken ribs. Where was he hit?” one of them asked turning to Alex.
“Across the back, chest and side.”
He nodded and then turned back to Colby, “Let’s get him on a stretcher.”

Alex sat next to Colby’s hospital bed and held his hand. She had already talked to the police and given them her statement. The officer said he would come back later when Colby was awake for his. She looked up to see Bob and Jane Carter standing at the door. She got up out of her chair quietly as not to disturb Colby and walked out into the hall.
“How are you?” Jane asked giving her a hug
Alex attempted a smile, “Still shaken. Has Nick come in yet?”
“No, not yet. Their plane was delayed.” Bob answered
Alex nodded and looked back at Colby, “How’s he doing?” Jane asked quietly
“He has 5 cracked ribs, thankfully they didn’t puncture a lung, and some bruised organs, I can’t remember which ones. He has a really big bump on his head from where he hit the concrete floor. They doctors want to watch him for a couple of days just to be safe.”
Jane nodded, “If you need anything, you let me know. Have you called your parents?”
“No, not yet. I’m going to wait until things settle down a little. Then I’ll call them, and the Jacobs.”
“Do you want us to go get you something?” Bob asked
“No, I’m fine, thanks.”
“Well, we’ll leave, but if you need anything, anything at all you call us, okay.”
“Okay, thank you.” Alex said giving Jane a hug before they left.

Nick walked into the back door and dropped his bags, “Hey everybody, I’m back!”
B.J. came around the corner, “Oh Nick your home,” she hugged her brother, “Mom and Dad are up at the hospital with Alex…”
“Alex is in the hospital?!” Nick almost screamed at his sister
“No, Colby is.”
“What happened?”
“I’m not sure. I just know that the stalker showed up…” She didn’t say anymore because her brother was already out the door.

Nick walked thru the door and stopped when he caught site of Colby. He had a bandage wrapped around his head, and several bruises across his face. His eyes then moved to Alex. She was sitting next to the bed holding his hand.
Alex looked up and saw Nick. She got up slowly and walked towards him. She clasped in his arms and began to cry.
Nick continued to look at Colby and then looked down at Alex, “what happened?”
The question only made Alex cry harder. Nick held her and decided that maybe now was not the best time to ask.
