"The Winning Edge : Show Ring Secrets"
by: George G. Alston with Connie Vanacore
(May, 1992)

Book Review

This book was written for the amateur handler. It gives good insight on how to go into the ring and compete with the professional handler. It teaches you that you should not be "showing" the dog to the judge you should be "presenting" the dog.

There are 12 chapters. They cover everything from being the perfect handler, obedience and confirmation, training for the show ring, preparing and grooming for the ring, etiquette, sportsmanship and finally planning a campaign.

"The Winning Edge" is very well written. It explains things so you can understand clearly what you are supposed to be doing. The pictures are such that they "show" you, what you are reading about to give you a visual presentation.

This is a wonderful book for the new handler, one who wants to be able to go into the ring and hold his/her own with the professional handlers, have a great time in the ring and to be a good sportsman.
