Amy sighed, swinging her legs against Lita's kitchen counter. School was almost over, and she would be glad for the break. It was a dull, drizzly Sunday, a week after she and the other had studied at Raye's temple, and Lita had invited her over for the afternoon. Lita walked into the kitchen, dressed in a pair of jeans and a white T-shirt that said, 'I will not be defeated by a boy' in green lettering. Amy, wearing a blue sweater and khakis, smiled.
"Are you hungry?" Lita asked, opening the refrigerator door.
"A little. It is about lunch time."
"What would you like? I have just about everything."
"Just whatever you want."
The two ended up having turkey sandwiches with potato chips and brownies for dessert. Lita sighed, sitting down on the couch and turning on the radio.
"You know, I'm glad that we won't be doing any more major fighting for a while."
"Yes, it'll be nice to relax and study a bit," Amy remarked, propping a book open on her knees.
"Come on! Take a break from that for just one day, please?" Lita begged, clasping her hands in front of her face. "Help me cook some stuff for study buddies tomorrow!"
Laughing, Amy agreed. "What are you making?"
"Um, probably some cookies. I'll make the roast beef sandwiches tomorrow morning." Lita began bustling away in the kitchen, stopping as the phone rang.
"Hey!" Serena's voice came through.
"Hey Serena. What's up?"
"Nothing. You?"
"Amy an' me are just hanging out. We're cooking."
"Oh."
"Wanna come over? We can invite everyone. You know, an almost-end-of-school get-together." Lita turned to the cupboards, pulling out a bag of flour and another of sugar.
"That sounds great! I'll call Raye; can you get hold of Mina? And bring I'll Rini."
"No problem. Have everyone come over around," she glanced at the clock, "four-thirty? Does that sound good?"
"Yep! See ya then!" Serena hung up at the same time Lita did.
It was twelve-fifteen; rain was still coming down in sheets outside. Amy thumbed through a recipe book, eyeing the ingredients.
"You know, that doesn't give us much time."
"Oh, well," Lita sighed, dumping a cup of flour into a bowl. "Can you make some sandwiches?"
"Sure." Amy stepped over to the refrigerator, looking at the different meats, breads, and vegetables. "Uh, what kind?"
"Whatever you think they'll eat...Oh! Before you do, can you call Mina?"
"Of course." Lita watched her disappear into the hall, then return with a blue hand-held data computer. Flipping through several functions, Amy found the telephone numbers she had stored in there, and began calling.
