WHAT THE KEHOE JIG IS
The KEHOE JIG is a patented wood
working tool used to make dovetail joints.
Whether you are a full time professional
woodworker or a dedicated woodworking
hobbiest, the Kehoe Jig is an easy-to-use
tool that will add to your woodworking
creativity and versatility. The strongest
corner joints possible are created using the
Kehoe method of joinery which utilizes any
dovetail bit up to 3/4” and 1”. The 1°
taper along with the corresponding finger
slots are what separate the Kehoe Jig from
all other dovetail tools. Since the splines
are also tapered, they get tighter the farther
into the joint that they are tapped.
HOW TO USE THE JIG
The KEHOE JIG is a tool for making dovetail joints that never come
apart) are unbelievably strong and are a perfect fit every time. What makes
this all possible is the one-degree taper which is built into the fingers of the
jig and the corresponding one degree taper of the splines or wedges which
are tapped into the tapered hole in the corner of your project. Here are the
steps.
1. Glue your project together first. Use either a 45 degree
joint, a rabbet joint or a butt joint.
2. Place the Kehoe Jig on the glued together corner and
clamp in place.
3. Use a router fitted with a 5/8 O.D. collar or bushing
(template guide) and a dovetail bit; 1/2" 14 degree is the most
popular bit. Other size bits work well also.
4. Make the cuts with the router. The tapered finger slots will
guide your router in and out.
5. Tap a tapered spline into the tapered slot after applying a
little glue. Cut the spline off even with the sides of the project
and sand. You now have a perfect dovetail joint.
