Imagine being able to create perfect
dovetail joints every time, shallow or
deep dovetails; 3/8", 1" and 3/4"
dovetails along the same edge; and
even dovetails from a variety of exotic
woods such as alternating cocobolo
and purple heart dovetails on a
cherrywood project; or perhaps
maple dovetails along a black walnut
edge.
Whether you are building a cocobolo jewelry box with wenge dovetails
or a traditional blanket chest using oak dovetails, the Kehoe Jig makes
the job easy. And since each of the dovetail splines work independently
you can be sure that the joint as well as the dovetails will be strong and
accurate. The idea of using splines (sometimes called keys) has been
around for a long time. However with most previous methods it has been
rather difficult and time consuming to have projects come out exactly
right. The Kehoe Jig changes this. When using the Kehoe Jig, the jig is
simply placed onto the corner and clamped on Then a router fitted with
a dovetail bit is guided along the slots of the jig. After cutting the slots
out, the dovetail splines are inserted and lightly tapped in. The 1 degree
taper of the slots along with the corresponding taper of the dovetail
spline makes for a tight fit every time.
