MTV Icon: Janet Jackson

2, 4, 6, 8, who do we appreciate? Janet, Janet, gooooooo JANET!

The MTV Janet Jackson Icon wasn't something I watched all the way through. I tried to watch it on the very first airing, but I had to leave my house. I saw Outkast singing to the "original" Ms. Jackson, that was about it.

Because MTV is really weird, they play things about a billion times. I happened to be watching TV one night and while flipping channels came across the Icon thing. I knew that with my luck I'd already missed *N Sync's appearance and would end up watching the whole thing. What luck! I'd turned it just in time to have Justin and Chris be introduced. Because I'm a big loser and always have tape in the VCR *just in case* the boys come on, I was ready to record. This is what I saw:

Testimony:

  • Justin being an idiot. "She was hot in that too." Seriously, they give him really stupid lines. If the whole purpose was to celebrate what a great artist Janet is, it's a little degrading for him to just comment on how "hot" she is.
  • I still can't get over how horrible Justin's hair looks. (Or lack thereof....) As much as I made fun of the 'fro, I miss it and want it back.
  • I have no complaints about Chris. Lately, he's been very tolerable.

"That's the Way Love Goes" Video Remake:

  • Wow.
  • They're really hot.
  • Even Joey.
  • Still in shock.
  • They haven't looked this good in long time.
  • They gave Chris a solo. Thank God!
  • Sweet Jesus, Joey AND Lance got to sing.
  • Wow.
  • JC looks really hot.
  • I can't even think straight.

That's about it. After watching the video again, I was able to prepare myself for how good they looked and keep myself out of shock. I also noticed somethings:

  • Justin's shirt was really ugly.
  • Does Chris's hair have red streaks in it?
  • JC's hair looked cool and so did Joey's.
  • Who has been cutting Lance's hair too short? Bedhead is the right look for him, dammit.

Oh yeah, the dance tribute was pretty cool, but I expected a little more from the performers. Usher was really the only one who impressed me. That's it.
