Non-Teenybopper Music That's Cool

I know that *N Sync fans are stereo-typed as only liking pop and being "teenyboppers." Don't get me wrong, I LOVE teenybopper music and could probably name more boybands than you even knew existed, but I also like alternative, punk, rock, rap, etc. This is section is here because I want to show *N Sync fans can like "cool" music and maybe some one who only listens to pop music will discover they enjoy a new type of music that they never thought they'd like. Plus, I want to plug my fav "non-teenybopper" musicians, because they're not all mainstream. Click on the name of the group to get to their offical site to learn more about them, because they're cool. Alicia's comments are in blue. Alicia's a total loser and has all of these random facts about random bands built up inside of her and sometimes she feels the need to let them slip out. That's what happened here, my apologies.

Sarah~

American Hi-Fi ~ They sing "Flavor of the Weak," which I loved from the 1st time I heard it. The only bad thing about them is that they think "punk is dead." Other than that, they're cool.

Yeah these guys are pretty cool, althought their first album (the one with flavor of the weak) really sucked. They have a new one out called "The Art of Losing" it's a great video song and album, and if you bought it the week it came out if was super cheap at target. The CD is enhanced w/the video and making of the video which was shot at some kids house who they had partied at before. It's really funny and they're all hot, it's worth the 12 bucks, i promise.

Alien Ant Farm ~ Besides doing an awesome cover and video of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" their whole CD is really good. The lead singer is good at putting emotion into songs. "ANThology" is worth the fifteen bucks. I loved the "Smooth Criminal" song before it was on TRL and just on MTV2. Seriously, I'm good at this whole "predicting the next big rock act" thing...

I'm not so good at this whole "predicting the next big rock act" thing, but i'll tell you what i like and don't like that's for sure. AAF is pretty good i don't really have alot to say. I'd recommend downloading or burning the cd before buying it though.

Barenaked Ladies ~ They've been a band I've liked since "One Week" came out. Their CD "Stunt" is good for mellowing you out. Some of their songs have great humor in them too.

Good CD, go buy

The Beatles ~ They are simply greatness. I don't even refer to it as "oldies" because their music is so timeless. If I had to choose onlly one Beatles CD to, it would be "The One" CD, because it has all their greatest hits. I also recommend "Yellow Submarine" and "Live from the BBC."

Never really go into the Beatles, and i never understood all the craze....

Blink 182 ~ Do I even need to explain why Blink rocks? *sigh* If I must....They're a boyband without being a boyband. I can't get much more clear than that. Their music "rocks the ho-izy-ouse!" (From "The Mark, Tom, & Travis Show." If you don't have have it, go buy it. Or burn it from a friend's copy. Or download it off Napster.)

Definetly burn "The Mark, Tom and Travis Show" but go buy "Enema of the State," "Dude Ranch" "Take off Your Pants and Jacket," "Cheshire Cat," and the Buddah one burn the others whatever. These dudes are awesome, they have the best fucking drummer you'll ever hear in your life kiddos.

Cake ~ They're an alternative group, and they've got a totally different style that's mellow, and they've got really amazing lyrical abilites. (Big words, go me.) Their cover of "I Will Survive" is really cool. Their whole CD "Fashion Nugget" is great. You might also know them from the song "Never There." The video for "Short Skirt, Long Jacket" is hilarious and inventive.

Eminem ~ I KNOW how constroversal he is. Don't send hatemail saying how I can't be an *N Sync fan or how I'm a hateful person because I like Eminem. I think the guy has a lot of balls and says some things to simply piss people off and get a reaction. I don't think it's his fault (or any other artists, or that matter) for all the violence that he's being blamed for influencing. Parents need to get involved. Sorry I got into all that social commentary, but I had to get it out.

Eve 6 ~ I know you've heard of them because "Promise" from "Horrorscope" was pretty big for them. "Horrorscope" is one of those CDs you can listen to all the way throough without skipping songs. ("I hate skipping songs...*ki*ki*ki*..." Uh, never mind. I'm retarded.)

Fenix*TX ~ First of all, it's pronounced like this: "Phoenix T. X." Secondly, they're another punk band. (Are we starting to see a pattern, kids?) If you saw the MTV movie "Jailbait!" you probably heard their song "All My Fault." Blink 182 likes them, so they kick ass.

My older brother met these guys and partied w/them and stuff and said they're really cool, not to mention they ROCK! Even if you don't wanna buy one of their CD's you should at least download "Song For Everyone," and "Manufactured Inspiratio," they must have classics for the whole family.

Good Charlotte ~ They're cool. "Little Things" was played on MTV for awhile and had Mandy Moore in it. Now they're released "Motivation Proclamation" and I was so happy because it's my favorite song. They need to be more popular than they are. They're rock. Plus Joel, the lead singer, is really good looking. (That always helps.)

They're ALL really good looking.

Janet Jackson ~ She always has been and always will be the queen of pop...Not Britney, not Christina, JANET DAMMIT! And, over 10 years after the realease of her first CD, she's still kicking ass! All my girls @ the party, look @ that body.....

BLEH

Lava Baby ~ I think Alicia and I are the only people who've heard of this group. Go to their site and they'll send you a free copy of their CD. They're basically a girl rock group with these 2 guys who are just there. (Go to the site, you'll understand.) They play a lot of shows in NYC, so if you live in that area, you can see them.

Yeah, go see em!

Limp Bizkit ~ Their music is the music you crank up when you're pissed off at your parents, your friends, your teachers, basically anything you're angry about. You want to go out and break a car window with a baseball bat after listening to their music, it's so high energy. Plus, they're pro-Napster.

NAPSTER ROCKS

Linkin Park ~ These guys used to be called Hybrid Theory, but now that's the name of their CD. If you liked "Crawling" or "One Step Closer" I beg you to go out and pick up the CD, because those aren't even the best songs on there. (I do shameless plugs for artist I think aren't getting credit where it's due.)

OH, MY, GOD, let me just start by saying that i enjoy some of their music, 3 years ago my DAD got their single for "one Step Closer" in the mail so of course i confinscated it. Now my dad gets wierd mail as he runs his business through our home but a CD? well this boggels my little mind. Let me continue by saying that i hate linkin park with an undying passion. They have like 6 or 7 guys in the band. Now if Green Day can be the best band EVER with only 3 than you should be fucking awesome w/6 right?? it only makes sense. Not the case, i mean they're alright but they're not as good as they SHOULD be. As if this isn't bad enough I find out that they were put together by a record company. Now don't get me wrong that alone is not grounds for disliking them, i mean look at what kind of website you're on! But don't pull off this whole we're an awesome band we rock cuz you suck and i hate you!! Back to the point of my dad getting the CD in the mail, since the band was put together by a label the label has tons of money to promote them, now, i'm not saying they're not a good band, just saying that they only have the credibility that they do because of the money pushers behind them. The record labels send out CD's randomly like that, and they pay radio stations to play songs, it happens all the time in boyband land but don't give me that shit if you're a real band. That said, if any of you went to buy Meteora at midnight.....you deserve to be shot, in fact email me so i can shoot you personally.

Lit ~ They're actually not punk (*gasp*) but still make really good music. "Miserable" is a really good song, and you can't get the guitar solo from the beginning of "My Own Worst Enemy" out of your head.

YEAH, they rock!

matchbox20 ~ They're cool. To me, they're like the Beatles for the new generation. Maybe they're not as wildly successful as the Beatles were, as far as 100s of screaming people following them everywhere, but they've got music you can listen to without getting tired of. I think that 20 years from now, they'll be one of those groups people are still listening to without being considered oldies.

I love matchox twenty, and i always will. I have a friend (contrary to popular belief sarah and i do have friends other than each other *gasp*) who always makes fun of me for liking them. I can't even explain why I do, I just do. I mean come on, why do kids like apple jacks, they don't even taste like apple!? "We just do!" If you don't have any of their albums and are looking for a good place to start get Yourself of Someone Like You, it's the best.

MXPX ~ A great punk rock band. If you can get a copy of the "Wet Paint" compilation CD at Target, do so. It has a song by MXPX called "My Life Story" and it's just a great punk rock song. I have their 1998 (?) "Let It Happen" CD, which has 32 songs and I got for $12. Good deals.

Good band, good guys. Fat Mike is my hero and i want to be just like him when i grow up. I actually told my mom that once when i was like 11 and she laughed at me, and my older brother gained a whole new respect for me. They're great though, it doesn't show too much in their music but if you do a little research, which you'll want too cuz they're cool, they're actually quite a political group. And just as a random side note, although they don't like being stereotyped as a "christian band" they started out on Tooth and Nail Records which is a Christian Label.

New Found Glory ~ They're so awesome that words can hardly describe. You can get their CD @ Target (the best store on earth) for like 10 bucks. They're punk rock. They also have another CD which is nothing but covers of movie songs ("From the Screen to Your Stero"). They even revamped "My Heart Will Go On" and it's a billion times better than the original. Plus, Julie from The Real World Neeeeeeeeew Orleans is in their video for "Hit and Miss" (which deserves to be on TRL) and the lead singer's hot....(PS: Thanks to skeeto182 for introducing me to NFG. Sorry for stealing your group. You *get* Jordan, but I still get to say how hot he is...)

Don't buy the album with all cover song! It's a rip-off although all the songs are great you should just download them because the way i see it, there is no original music on that album at all therefore they shouldn't be able to charge for it. Other than that they're a great band and they have two grrrrrrrrreat (and hot) guitar players. They're worth checking out just for some of the guitar solos.

nine days ~ Even if you hate "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)," if you like matchbox20 or any music along those lines, I highly recommend you get your hands on a copy of "The Madding Crowd." It's a really good CD and you don't ever have to listen to "Absolutely" ever again. (I don't.)

No Doubt ~ They are amazing. Gwen Stefani is one of the greatest females in music today. "I'm Just A Girl" is one of my favorite songs and "Tragic Kingdom" is one of the best CDs.

Tragic Kingdom was good, the new stuff sucks. Hey Gwen, quit while you're ahead dear.

The Offspring ~ I really like "Americana." That CD is so cool. All their songs kind of sound the same, except "Feelings," but that's the only song on that CD I don't really like so maybe it's a good thing. "Pretty Fly(For a White Guy)" is hilarious and the video for "The Kids Aren't Alright" was really inventive.

Silverchair ~ "Ana's Song (Open Fire)" is so beautiful, sad, and it's a hard hitting rock song all at once. "Anthem for 2000" is awesome too.

I enjoy "Emotion Sickness"

SR-71 ~ Very few people have heard of them. Their video for their 1st single "Right Now" got a little play on MTV last summer. Their whole CD is really good rock.

Sugar Ray ~ Unless you're retarded, you've noticed how hot Mark McGrath is. Their music is just fun. "Falls Apart" is another of my favorite songs.

The Wonders ("That Thing You Do!" soundtrack) ~ I loved the movie and the song before I even heard *N Sync did it for the '99 tour. It's really good corny 50's music. Good driving music. The movie's cool, so go rent it! ("Lenny, go tell the pilot it's your birthday!")

Sum 41 ~ Like I said before, I have this really good ear. I like a rock group that almost know one has heard of, I go buy their CD, and in the next week or two, they're on TRL. I don't have "Half Hour of Power" Sum 41's first CD, but I do have "All Killer, No Filler." This is another example of great punk rock.

Buy "Half Hour of Power" first, it's definetly the best. The bass player is hot.

3 Doors Down ~ Why do I like them? 'Cuz they're from Mississippi. Just kidding. Again, really good Mississippian rock. Their whole CD is good. And did I mention they're from Mississsippi....

Third Eye Blind ~ "Semi-Charmed Life" is on the soundtrack of my life. I like to call it the "happy song." They're so awesome. I love the songs "London" and "Deep Inside of You."

New album out May 18th, or whatever day the week of the 18th is a Tuesday....I LOVE this band they're another one of my very favorites and Stephan isn't really marrying Vanessa Carlton, not if I have anything to do with it....

"The Wedding Singer" soundtrack ~ I have this weird obsession with 80's music. I love it so much. It's scary. Both soundtracks are chalk full of good 80's music. "Video Killed The Radio Star," "Blue Monday," and the only place I know of (besides Napster...In case you couldn't tell, we're pro-Napster at "Giddy This!") with the whole 1st verse of "Rapper's Delight" sung by an 80 year old grandma. Plus, Adam's Sandler's "Somebody Kill Me" always makes me laugh out loud every time I hear it.

I think i'm the only one it the world but i hated this movie.

The Used ~ I saw these guys in concert a while ago. Right before they went on stage i was standing by the door to the backstage area and I could see them standing there tying there shoes and stuff and they waved to me, they were cool and one of the guys got another dude from the band that had played before them and told him to come talk to me and he gave me a shirt and stuff it was cool. Anyways, their first full-length is really good, they're all really talented and it's amazing how his voice goes from a nice melodic voice to a scream and back so easily. Plus, they're all hot and one of them is named Quinn and the lead singer is Bert McCracken. I'd marry him just to get his last name. I'd do him just do him.....

The Ataris ~ I don't even know what to say, i've been in love ever since i got there first cd like 7 years ago when i was like 9 or 10. They're kind of obscure and hard to find but their new album is everywhere, it's their first on a major label. I would recommend starting with "Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits" definetley their best although anything by them is good. Lead singer and lyricist Kris Roe is a genius in his field, he has an amazing ability to tell a story in a song. His music is very much geared at teenagers and is very heartfelt and sincere, you really can't help but like them.

The Vandals ~ Joe Escalante, the drummer/bassist has somewhat of the same appeal as Fat Mike of MXPX. He used to be the drummer of this band, something happened and they had to replace their bass player in the middle of a tour, when they went into the studio to record their next album he says that the new bass player wasn't good enough to record on the album so he did both drums and bass on that album. He then decided that he liked playing bass better, so instead of finding a new bass player then just found a new drummer. Again, I love this guy, he owns Kung Fu Records and has a degree in law because he says he had nothing better to do between tours so he went to law school. The band is awesome they're somewhere inbetween Green Day and Blink 182 quick simple punk rock with quite vulgur humor. One of the guys is named Dave Quackenbush, i mean come on, the name says it all......

Sublime ~ What can you really say about a band like this? They were ugly old men who made great music. The singer overdosed and died, the world wept (uh, yeah). That's about it, their music will live on FOR-E-VER

Nirvana ~ Nothing can really explain this one, Dave Grohl rocks to this day, Krist got old and bald, but he had his 15 minutes and he used it wisely, and Kurt killed himself. But i do beg you, please DO NOT but the "Kurt Cobain Diaries," Courtney is a whore and will burn in hell for selling his soul when he wasn't around to protect himeslf.

The Ramones ~ One of the best and really one of the only real punk bands ever, cool guys to this day, go get some albums they only have 3,265,476 out there.

The Clash ~ London Calling was one of the first CD's i ever owned i can't remember how old i was...but i was WAAY too young to be listening to them, that's for sure.

The Sex Pistols ~ Once again i was too young to listen to this music, but i had one of those shirts that said "God Save the Sex Pistols" my uncle saw them live and bought the shirts for myself and my older brother, my mom hated it, LoL.

************THIS HERE IS THE MUCH DESERVED TRIBUTE TO ALL THINGS DRIVE-THRU*************

Midtown ~ These guys are like a boyband with real musical ability. Their music is almost lovey dovey but still good, they seem like their main audience would be girls but i know more guys that like them than any other band, they're just a good band, there's not alot more to say.

Finch ~ All around good rock band. Not like most things that come out of Drive-Thru (for those of you who don't know Drive-Thru Records is like the Jive, the owners Richard and Stephanie something are like the Lou Pearlmans of the indie world). This album is good from catchy singles like "Letters to You" to slower, harder songs like "What it is to Burn" (one of the best songs EVER written, EVER). Totally worth your money.

The Movielife ~ Good punk band, supposedly a big draw at the warped tour, not that i would know....Although I am personally boycotting EP's of any sort, the best of The Movielife would probably be the EP "...Has a Gambling Problem." If you don't wanna spend the 7 bucks on it download "Hand Grenade"

Allister ~ The new album "Last Stop Suburbia" is pure genius power punk at it's finest. Their first album, "Dead Ends and Girlfriends" is hard to find and may be expensive but is worth the search.

Something Corporate ~ File alongside Midtown, kind of mellow some might say girly, but altogether good stuff. Don't bother with the EP's unless you're hardcore, start with the full-length "Leaving Through the Window."

The Starting Line ~ Probably my least favorite of the Drive-Thru bunch, but they rock none the less. Their video for "Best of Me" ingeniously makes fun of the Dance Dance Revolution, which scores major points with me.

Senses Fail ~ This band is SOOO good, they have i think 2 EP's out that are IMPOSSIBLE to find, but from what i've downloaded i'm in love, i don't know much about these guys except that one member named dave has a small penis. He along with all of his bandmates acknowledge it and joke about it frequently. I beg you to please at least download some of their stuff, you won't be disappointed.
