Purpose & Goals

The Renaissance of Papermaking is a 501c3 non-profit arts education organization dedicated to teaching elementary school students the vanishing art of papermaking. Paper art is the basis for helping students development of environmental awareness, increase student involvement in their own community, broaden leadership development skills, and further cross-cultural understanding. The organization has many objectives: To introduce students to the ecological, artistic, historical, and utilitarian aspects of papermaking. To teach students about ecosystems from which the fibers are harvested as well as teaching multiple aspects of recycling. To promote cross-cultural, neighbor to neighbor and intergenerational interactions. To cultivate leadership and communication skills by encouraging children to become teachers to their peers and community. To inspire the "artist" in all young people. To encourage community building through papermaking workshops and exhibitions. The organization achieves it mission through it's four primary programs: 1. The Papermaking Studio Program 2. The Artists in Schools Program 3. The Community Outreach Program (events, exhibitions, lecture / slideshows, website) 4. Our Travel Program
