A Photographic Retrospective By John Robert Rowlands
In the thirty years since he first jammed on stage with
Muddy
Waters and Otis Span, Richard Newell has recorded eight
critically
acclaimed albums and a dozen or so EPs, singles and
compilations. He
has recorded with Ronnie Hawkins, who gave
Rich the stage name "K.B.B.," and
Mike Bloomfield. He has
played with many international artists such as Etta
James,
Joe Cocker, Dr. John, The Band and John
Lee Hooker, to name
just a few. Newell's distinctive vocal and
harp style, combined with
his unique approach to blues arrangements,
have influenced some of the great
names of the 80's, like Huey
Lewis and Duane Allman.
His latest CD, Urban
Blues Re:Newell, features five new tunes and a
return to the 'down-home'
style that crosses all boundaries of
rockin'-country-boogie and blues.
