Macavity: The Mystery Cat

By Bombakat

Part 1: Exile and Revenge

Silence. And deafening at that.

Slowly, a ginger cat raised his head. Exiled.

Never to return.

"I will take my revenge. Mark my words Munkustrap, I will be back!"

So began this cat’s evil life.

***********

A scraggly, uncared for alley cat laughed, an evil, resounding laugh.

"All those years ago, Munkustrap, I was exiled by you. Now, I will have REVENGE!" he said the last word with so much force his rats scattered in fear.

"The plan, my friends, is very simple. All we have to do is lure the Jellicles down to the river in two days time. Little will they know that once at the river they will fall in, and be pulled downstream into my underground chamber. There, I will have revenge! I shall take Bombalurina and Demeter, and KILL anyone who gets in my way!"

And with that, Macavity began to laugh maniacally.

**********

"Hey, now that is just not fair!!!" yelled Sillabub as Etcetera jumped onto a junkheap where Sillabub couldn’t reach her.

"It’s not my fault you’re the baby and can’t jump!!!" yelled back Etcetera.

Sillabub jumped enraged, and reached the top of the heap. She tapped Etcetera and leapt away again.

"Tag!!!!!!"

"Hey - you - but - waaaaaait!!!!!!!!" squealed Etcetera.

Sillabub laughed and ran…… straight into a sturdy paw.

"Hello…. JELLICLE!" spat the cat. Sillabub faintly remembered this cat as being Claw, an evil cat on Macavity’s side.

"Here kitty kitty kitty!" sneered Claw, and snatched up Sillabub.

"HELP!!!!" screamed Silla, but no one heard her. No one except the tabby cat who had been playing with her.

Etcetera saw Sillabub be taken by Claw, and, crying all the way, ran to find one of the adults.

She crashed into a leopard patterned paw. Normally, she’d have drooled over Tugger, but now she had to help Silla.

"Tugger! Claw’s got Sillabub please help.." sobbed Etcetera.

Tugger’s head snapped up, and he was alert in an instant.

"He has Sillabub?"

"yes."

Tugger gave Etcy a piggyback to the junkyard, where he called to the Jellicles and told them what had happened.

"We have to save Sillabub!" Jenny said decisively.

"Can you show us where Claw went, Etcetera?" Alonzo asked.

"This is my fault… I was supposed to be watching them!" cried Carbucketty.

"No one is to blame! Now, we have to find Sillabub." Tugger said.

**********

"The river? Why would Claw take Silla to the river?" wondered Alonzo.

"Oh! Maybe he thought she needed a bath!!!" giggled Pouncival.

"Pouncival! This is serious!" chided Plato.

Pouncival looked unhappy.

"The tracks end here Munku." Demeter told the leader.

"Then there’s no other choice." Munkustrap said firmly.

"No! The river is very close to bursting its banks Munku!" Bomba said.

"There’s nowhere else they could be!"

"Alright." Bomba turned to the other Jellicles. "Ready to get wet?"

An assortment of groans issued. Then Etcetera stepped forwards.

"I’m not going back! Not without Silla!"

The others began to mumble, "ok" "I’ll do it."

"Everyone in!" Munk called out. They jumped into the river. My, it was cold! Instantly, they were pulled downstream by the powerful current.

"Munku!" called Demeter. Too late did Munk realise his fatal mistake. It was a trap. Set by none other. Macavity.

"Everyone, out of the water!!!!" he yelled. Too late. Pulled into a whirlpool, they circled down, into oblivion.

**********

Bombalurina opened her eyes. She was elbow deep in water. Luckily she’d been above the water level. Then she saw the kittens face down in the water.

"Oh no!" Bomba dived under, and pulled Electra up.

"Bomba, over here!" Jelly indicated for Bomba to bring the kittens to the shallow part. Bomba deposited Electra and went back for Victoria. Last and least, Etcetera.

Bombalurina sighed as she pulled Etcetera up. Whoah! Was she heavy!

An evil laugh resounded. The other Jellicles, who were now more or less conscious, didn’t need Dem’s paranoid yelp to tell them the owner of the voice.

"Macavity!"

"You don’t say!" Macavity dropped down. By this time, Bombalurina had found Sillabub and was standing with Tugger.

"What do you want, Macavity?" asked Mistoffelees.

"My two queens and Munkustrap."

"What do you want with Bombalurina?" Tugger called out.

"I need an heir. She seems perfect, seeing as it’s her time."

"Over my dead body!" Tugger snarled.

"Preference noted." Macavity clicked his claws together, and the rats descended on them, pushing the Jellicles into the water, and holding them there. The cats cast the rats aside and stood, water dripping from their faces.

"Alright!" cried Bomba. She lowered her head. "I’ll do it. Providing you let the rest go!"

"Bomba, I’ll never let you give him an heir!" Tugger muttered to her.

"Tugger, if I don’t do it, he’ll kill you all." Her expression hardened. "What choice do I have?"

Tugger pulled her to him. "We’ll die if it means Macavity will have no heir. It means nothing. I love you Bomba. I’m not gonna lose you to him!"

Macavity scowled. "Your loss. Of your life that is!"

Macavity and his henchcats and henchrats left. All entrances were secured, and the water level began to rise….
