Baby Baby pt2

The news of the imminent addition to the Crane family had gone done well , Martin was over the moon his first words being

"At last a grandchild I can see and have some influence over" causing worried glances all around and Frasier to comment;

"Ah another good reason to have Freddie live with Lilith!"

Life had gone on pretty much as normal Daphne moved in with Niles but it was decided that she should still spend her days with Martin , as much for Niles peace of mind as any need Martin had for her help . , by the time November came Niles had taken to phoning at least twice a day , sometimes more and insisted on driving her to and from Frasier's rather than let her drive herself. It was an average Monday when the door bell rang , by now Daphne was nearly as slow as Martin but this time she managed to make it to the door first

"Special delivery for Daphne Moon" the man on the other side said

"That'll be me" she replied signing for a large box and taking it from the delivery man "that's strange" she said as she closed the door

"What is ?" martin replied

"Well this box just came for me , special delivery but who would be sending me something here?"

"Now as my powers of Xray vision have shorted out" Martin teased "You'll have to open it!"

She set it on the table as Eddie jumped up on the chair next to her , lifting the top of the box she parted the tissue paper to find a note

"Wear this , meet me at 8pm , Frasier knows were , he'll drive you . Love as always Niles"

Inside the box was the most beautiful black evening dress she'd ever seen , sized perfectly to fit her now enormous bump.

"Well?" Martin asked "What is it , or do I have to ask Eddie?"

"It's from Niles, it's a dress and a note telling me to meet him in some mysterious location Frasier is going to drive me to!"

"Oh he always was a soppy kid !"

Daphne spent most of the afternoon getting ready , it was late November and Icy out but Niles had thought of that when Frasier arrived home from work he was carrying her black wrap and flat shoes to match the dress and a small box containing the emerald necklace and earings he had bought her on the one year anniversary of their relationship . At 7.30 she came out into the siting room

"Wow!" Martin said "you look amazing !"

"Indeed you do" Frasier agreed " If you weren't so in love with my brother , I might fall for you myself , and carrying his baby and such a good friend and ..... well you look great non the less"

He lead her to the car and they both got in

"Now" Frasier said "Niles told me two things , one I was to make sure you wore your seat belt and two I wasn't to drive over 35 mph" he laughed

"Oh he's such a worry wart" Daphne smiled

"Not at all , I was exactly the same when Lilith was expecting Fredrick ," Frasier said as he drove "It used to drive her insane , I remember once she looked me in the bedroom so that she could do the hovering with out me following her about she must have been really enjoying the housework because I was in there for over 3 hours"

As they rounded a familiar corner Daphne realised where he was taking her , they pulled up outside the little diner they had ate in the night they'd first declared their feelings .

"He's inside" Frasier said turning off the engine "have a lovely evening , and Daphne , I hope you realise how happy I am for both of you"

"I do Frasier , thank you"

She got out of te car and headed in headed into the resteraunt . She was greeted by the same waiter who had tended them that night

"Good evening madam , come this way"

The place was completely empty , he lead her to the corner booth were Niles was waiting , he got up and kissed her

"Good evening Darling , and you too" He said touching her bump "How are you both?"

"We're fine , this place is really empty"

"It's supposed to be , I've booked all the tables for the night . And it was worth it you look amazing"

"All the tables? What ever for?" Daphne asked as the waiter approached

"Drinks?" He asked

"Iced tea" they said together

They laughed as the waiter walked away

"For this" Niles said waving to the waiter and the room was filled with a now familiar song , he took a little black velvet box from his pocket and opened it , inside was a stunning emerald engagement ring "Would you do me the honour of becoming my wife , and allowing me to spend the rest of my life doing everything in my power to make the happiest woman on earth?"

"Oh Niles" Daphne said as tears rolled down her face "Yes , Yes of course I will"

He placed the ring on her finger and took her hand leading her onto the dance floor , the last verse was playing and as they dances slowly to the music Niles looked into her eyes and softly sang ;

"There ain't nothing that I wouldn't do , Go to the ends of this earth for you , Make you happy make your dreams come true , to make you feel my love"

They ate and talked , as it turned out Frasier and Martin had both known about his plans for the evening , as had Roz who he had grudgingly taking shopping with him to buy the ring . Then Niles drove them home ever so carefully and they went to bed . It was 2am when he was woken by Daphne shouting from the kitchen , he leapt out of bed and ran to find her

"What's happening" he asked frantically as he reached the kitchen

"It's time , the baby's coming , bring the bag , and lets get out of here !"

"Ok , hospital , bag , clothes the car keys oh my oh my"

"Niles!" Daphne shouted "Lets move!!"

Later at the hospital Frasier and Martin paced back and forward in the waiting room , meanwhile in the delivery room Niles was holding Daphnes hand

"That's it one more push" He urged

"I can see the head , That's it com on one more push" The doctor said " That's it and it's a boy, congratulations you have a son"

As the doctor place the baby in Daphne's arms Niles stared at them both tears were rolling down his checks

"I love you Daphne Moon" He said "Thank you so much . A son . We have a Son"

Ten minutes later Niles emerged in the waiting room carrying a tiny little bundle

"Dad , Frasier meet Charles , my Son"

"Great, congratulations Son" said Martin looking into the bundle "Hey Charlie I'm your Grandad we're going to have some good times , just you and me"

"Frasier , are you alright?" Niles asked looking at his brother with concern

"Oh yes , of course , just thinking of when Freddie was born , now lets get a look at this boy , My he is a handsome fellow isn't he . Will we be able to see Daphne?"

"Yes , down the hall , third door on the left , just give us five minutes"

When Niles got into the room Daphne was sitting up in bed he handed the baby to her then sat down beside her , he kissed he and said

"You are so , he's so beautiful , I am the luckiest man alive"

Daphne looked at Niles and then at the baby "We're the luckiest people alive , because now no matter what happens we'll always be a family"

Martin's voice can from behind then "all of us , right Frase"

"Right Dad"
