Bio
Live, one of the greatest rock bands of the 90s weren't always the way that we have come to know them, they too have a story behind their success and it all starts in York, Pennsylvania.
Four guys get sick of small town life in York so they decide to start a band, just for fun nothing really serious. So in about 1985 Edward Kowalczyk, Chad Taylor, Chad Gracey, and Patrick Dahlheimer form the band called Public Affection. After four years of getting to become a band they released their first album called Death Of A Dictionary (DOAD) in August of 1989. They were happy with their current efforts and realize that they have something here, some talent and maybe they have a chance to leave York and see the World, and have some fun. With their talent they drove their van to New York's CBGB's to play some shows for record companies.
Well all of their shows payed off and in 1990 they met Phil Schuster of Radioactive Records and give them a record deal! In 1991 with the help of Jerry Harrison they put out their debut album called Mental Jewelry under their new name, Live. Later in 1991 their first single from MJ (Operation Spirit) went to MTV's buzz bin and hit number 1, they had their first hit.
Three years later in March of 1994 Live released the first single (Selling The Drama) from their new album Throwing Copper, the single goes to number 1 on most charts and the album also goes to become number one and remains on the charts for a long time. After playing the WOMAD tour and Woodstock II they release their third single from TC, the song called Lightning Crashes, reaches number one and is still the bands biggest hit ever. After touring for 18 months, playing 252 shows, Live decides they need a break. In December of 95 they were voted as Billboard's Artist Of The Year. In April of 1996 Live went back to the studio to begin recording their third album, Secret Samadhi. After almost a year later they released Secret Samadhi, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Charts.
After touring for Secret Samadhi the band started work on its fourth album, The Distance To Here. When fans got an early taste of the album at small club shows in '98 there was a massive buzz about the album. Everyone that heard the new songs were amazed, Live's fourth was going to be something very special. On October 5, 1999 we found out how special it was. The Distance To Here has some qualities from all their previous releases wrapped up into one solid package. They are currently on tour for TDTH with the Counting Crows, be sure to check them out.
