- Brief article from Variety:

London stages offer riches of flesh talent Issue: Dec 11, 2000

PETER DARLING, 36, choreographer

Onscreen, he sent Jamie Bell high-kicking his way through England's industrial north and into our hearts in "Billy Elliot"; onstage, he has performed solo for writer-director Robert Lepage (in the "Hamlet" rewrite "Elsinore") only to segue offstage to a career choreographing musicals and plays -- from "Merrily We Roll Along," now at the Donmar Warehouse, to Joseph Fiennes in Marlowe's "Edward II" in the new year.

February 20, 2001

- In some Sunday papers around the US is a weekend magazine called the USA Weekend which according to their website will feature an article on Joe next week. Keep your eyes open!

February 18, 2001

- The Los Angeles Times Calendar section printed a great interview with Chen Kaige, Director of Killing Me Softly. The article quoted Joe about working with Director Kaige:

Joseph Fiennes apologized for not finding words that could adequately convey the experience of working with Chen: "If he asked me to do any role, big or small, anywhere in the world, I'd be off at the drop of a hat. You really feel you're collaborating on something exciting. In every scene he has this extraordinary understanding of human behavior in any given situation."

- Mag Alert!

The March issue of Premiere (US) - Penelope Cruz cover - features a great pic of Joe at the top of their "New Releases" section. Pic has him riding a bike, arms aloft in a sort of "look ma, no hands" pose and he is bald - head shaved almost completely smooth. We will post the picture as soon as we have it.

- The EATG release date for the US now seems to be March 16 - which is a week earlier than the last date we heard. I admit I am getting increasingly confused by these release date announcements.

February 9, 2001

- Various sources tell that Joe has not attended the Berlinale as he intended to do, but cancelled last minute. La Stampa, Italy (Feb. 8) for example says: "A streak of red pen crosses out the name of Joseph Fiennes from the placard that announces the people present at the press conference for the Jean-Jacques Annaud movie "Enemy at the Gates", that yesterday night opened the 51st edition of the Berlinale. "He was really sure to come here - explain the people at the press conference widening their arms - then instead he has stayed in Scotland".

- Meanwhile, the reviews for EATG are not very favourable. For online coverage of the Berlinale go their official website which also has some EATG press photos. Another Berlinale link (in German) is Jump-Cut.

February 7, 2001

- ClickTV, lists a program titled "Entertainers" which features an interview with Joe during the week of February 17. Check with them to see when it will be broadcast in your (US, sorry) neighborhood!

- The Express, Feb. 1, by John McEntee:

Guests at the GBP 500-a-night Savoy Hotel overlooking London's Embankment were startled to spot Joseph Fiennes embroiled in a brutal fist fight. It was, however, purely for the sake of his art for Shakespeare in Love star Joe, 30, was shooting a scene for his new film Killing Me Softly. "He was punching the living daylights out of a skinhead," whispers my man with the First aid box. "It's so far removed from the period drama he's known for. He says it's physically demanding and one of his hardest roles." Although the cul-de-sac was closed for filming, it didn't stop an old lady trying to make a call from a phone box which had found its way there from the props department. Bless.

- Total Film Magazine, March 2001

Hard Bay's Knight

Bay and Bruckheimer Gladiatorising King Arthur?
Apparently Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay are planning another retelling of King Arthur and Total Film Mag wrote the following:

"So who to fill the king's regal breeches? Given most American actors' idea of an Unglush Occent begins and ends with Dick Van ..... Dyke, Rough Cut remains resistant to yer DiCaprios, Damons and Afflecks. As, indeed, should Bruckheimer. Close your eyes. Think British. Think beard. Think he who looks good in metal. Think in fact, Joseph Fiennes. And as for Sir Lancelot? Arise, Jude Law. Thy brass trousers await.

The pic showing Joe as King Arthur is here.

- According to upcomingmovies, MGM is aiming for a September release for Killing Me Softly.
