Short EATG article from German Petra Magazine, issue August 2000 (page 16 of the attached "Kino special"):

At immense cost Jean-Jacques Annaud (The Name of the Rose) has reconstructed the decisive battle of the Second World War.

Stalingrad is near Potsdam. At least for the length of the filming of Jean-Jacques Annaud's movie. In the former Russian barracks of Kampnitz near the capital of Brandenburg the French Director reconstructed the Russian town which so bitterly defended itself against Hitler's soldiers and thus rang in the beginning of the end of the Nazi terror regime. Annaud's war epos cost no less than 180 million marks - Hollywood has never given before such an incredible sum to a film produced in Europe. The team tried to be as authentical as possible, not only in the battle scenes, but also in the human tragedy which is the focus of the film and which is known to be true. Enemy at the Gates tells the story of the Russian farmer's boy Vassili and his fateful frienship to a Russian propaganda officer. Highly emotional roles for which Annaud has engaged two young Englishmen: the talented Mr. Jude Law as well as Joseph Fiennes who became world-famous with Shakespeare in Love. Ed Harris (Truman Show) and Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) complete the notable cast. Noone has seen the movie yet, but Enemy at the Gates is already said to be THE cinema event of next year.

US cable-TV subscription channel STARZ! will show Forever Mine in November:

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Leighton, president of Starz Encore Entertainment, today announced STARZ! Pictures' latest lineup of original movies through the end of 2000.

November: STARZ! Pictures presents the world premiere of the Paul Schrader ("Taxi Driver," "Affliction," "Raging Bull") written and directed romantic thriller "Forever Mine." In the early 1970's, a cabana boy and a married woman have a torrid affair, one that changes their lives forever. The young man, Manuel Esquema (Joseph Fiennes -- "Shakespeare In Love") pursues Ella Brice (Gretchen Mol -- "Rounders") with a devotion that seems beyond a summer beach resort fling. It's soon apparent that he's for real, and the love the two share is pure and transcendent of all obstacles. Soon the wife's husband, Mark Brice (Ray Liotta -- "Cop Land"), a ruthless businessman with political aspirations, learns of the affair and has Manuel locked up, then freed through a bogus escape, and left for dead after being shot. The gunshot horribly disfigures his face. After plastic surgery, Manuel vows revenge. He changes his identity and name to Alan Riply, and soon becomes a very powerful drug lord, climbing-up through the influential drug cartel circles of Miami. When Mark is on the verge of indictment and need of serious political influence, they turn to Riply, who is now a respected and important person in Washington. Finally after 12 years, Riply is reunited with Ella, and together they flee her wretched husband. But Mark finds out and attempts to put an end to their affair forever.

"27 - Joseph Fiennes: In the great "Ralph v Joseph" debate, it's baby bro who's made it to the top 30. And it's obivious why - those big brown eyes, the ability to look sexy in tights."
