- From today's Telegraph online:
In a spin about Westminster
Film director Martha Fiennes - sister of actors Ralph and Joseph - has stumbled on an intriguing subject for her next film. At the launch of Patrick Dillon's The Much-Lamented Death of Madam Geneva, Fiennes revealed that she recently enjoyed dinner with a Westminster journalist. "This lobby chum regaled her with stories about the lobby, spin doctors, Alastair Campbell and the weird world that is life at Westminster," says a guest. "Martha was very taken by it all, and reckons there's a smashing film to be made about spin doctors. She says the characters are so odd and the plotting is weirder than fiction."

Ballad Singer Michael Waterson Music and Lyrics by John Tams and Michael Waterson
Producer Nicholas Newton Director Bill BrydenBack in the sixties, John Osborne wrote a screenplay based on this epic military blunder. Today it gets to be performed for the first time. As producer Nicholas Newton explained to me, the genesis had nothing to do with a lack of of quality and everything to do with various copyright problems which led, ultimately to Charles Wood writing the screenplay for the film version. Hollywood's loss is radio's gain. And a bonus in this production is that Osborne's elegant screen directions are given a role as scene setter, so that the playright (played by Michael Feast) is heard at the start during writing of the screenplay and at moments thereafter, setting the scene. A fine cast includes Charles Dance, Donald Sinden and Joseph Fiennes.
