The Evening Standard mentions the following under the title "Mum really does know breast"

No fewer than 87 of the rich and famous have agreed to part with their nursery secrets, after being approached by the magazine Pink Ribbon, published annually to raise awareness about breast cancer.

The quotes will be published next month and later auctioned in aid of charity.

The list of contributors of the treasured wisdom reads like a Who's Who of stage, screen and politics. In every case, the advice the celebrities received has been written in their own handwriting on squares of white cotton, which will be turned into a "quilt of hope" to be auctioned later on the internet to raise funds for research into the disease.

The maternal advice Joseph Fiennes has treasured is: Get your guts into it.

- Empireonline.co.uk writes the following about Edward II:

Fiennes Ditches Shakespeare For Marlowe
21/09/2000

Joseph Fiennes will play the title role in Christopher Marlowe's Edward II at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield next year.

An epic story of power and love, Edward II will be directed by acclaimed theatrical director Michael Grandage as part of the theatre's 2000/2001 season. Speaking in his role as Associate Director, Sheffield Theatres, Grandage said the season "brings together some of our most talented young directors and offers an opportunity to see some of our finest actors in one of the most exciting spaces in the country."

Fiennes has recently been in Prague filming WWII drama Enemy At The Gates with Jude Law. Although he has had lead roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, it will be his first appearance at The Crucible Theatre. The production will run from 8 March to 31 March 2001.

- From an article in today's Telegraph (UK) about regional theatre in the UK:

Regional theatre is at a crossroads, a crossroads littered with signs pointing in different directions. There is an optimism in the air, evidenced by the continuing willingness of "name" actors to take time out of London: Richard Briers will shortly be at the Nuffield, Southampton, and in March Joseph Fiennes gives us his Edward II at the Sheffield Crucible. A crucial factor in determining the next step will be where the extra money goes, a process expected to take formal shape by December.

- Short arcticle about FM on the Salon.com site (note: FM will be on Starz cable channel on Nov. 4):

By Greil Marcus

Aug. 7, 2000 | 1) "Forever Mine," written and directed by Paul Schrader (Telluride Film Festival, Sept. 1-4)

In this deliriously romantic version of "The Count of Monte Cristo," it's 1973 at a glamorous Florida resort. Catching a glimpse of Gretchen Mol stepping out of the surf like Botticelli's Venus -- all she's missing is the shell -- cabana boy Joseph Fiennes knows his life will never be real without her. Soon he's talked her into bed, and it was like the discovery of gold for both of them, but she's only been married eight months and the pain of what she's done is ripping her apart. "Stop talking like an adult," Fiennes says oddly. "Tell me why." "Why what?" Mol says. "What do you think?" Fiennes says. "Why do birds sing so gay? Why does the rain fall from up above? Why did you get married?" -- and the old words from Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers' "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" slip in and out of Fiennes' speech as if he thought up the words on the spot. Because of many kinds of misfortune, the film is slated for a Nov. 4 showing on the Starz cable channel rather than a theatrical release; until distribution catches up with the picture the Telluride screenings will be the only chance to see it on a screen as big as its reach.

- Mag alert!

Joe will appear in the October issue of "Details" mag. Quote: "The relaunch's fashion spreads star Joseph Fiennes in Sicily." The issue will be on sale next week in the US.

September 12, 2000

- Joe will appear on the radio again!

In the Radio Times, 16 - 22 September the following is mentioned in an article on the Autumn programmes for Radio:

"The 600th anniversary of the death of Chaucer is to be marked, fittingly, by stories. From 23 October, some of our finest actors, including Eleanor Bron, Joseph Fiennes and Warren Mitchell, will play travellers trapped by a storm in a motorway service station, entertaining each other with 2000 tales but in this case 21 writers are involved. The plan is that, together the tales will form a colourful picture of contemporary life."
There is also mention of Killing Me Softly and a small picture from BAFTAs on another page under Newsdesk feature.

September 8, 2000

- There is a small article on EATG in the current (October) issue of Empire Magazine. It isn't of much interest really, being mainly about Jude Law, and also stuff we know already, and I certainly wouldn't rush out to buy it, but the following snippet raised a smile:

"Jumpers for goal posts, the smell of early morning dew, and cries of, "Square ball!" It's like school all over again. Only this is not a kick-about with 'Hacker' Groombridge and 'Beefy' Bishop. Oh, no. Today, the opposing side consists of one Jude Law and Joseph Fiennes. A freezing Saturday morning in drizzly Berlin, and footie is a welcome break from the smoggy interior takes for the upcoming World War II drama."

Read at your own risk. It is full of HUGE spoilers! The movie is quite different from the book.

September 1, 2000

- Upon calling the Crucible Theatre again, we found out that the official advertising campaign for the Edward II play will start in two weeks, with leaflets (complete with pic of Joe) posters, etc. Apparently, the reason we were earlier denied confirmation that Joe is in the play is because they are not supposed to give confirmation of cast lists ahead of the official advertising campaign. But we are informed that to date, he is definitely in it.
