Killing Me Softly
Fabio Ferzetti
From "Il Messaggero"

A thunderbolt in London, between a young American woman and a mysterious and sensual mountaineer. They meet, make love, fall in love, get married. Then she finds secrets in his past...

Killing Me Softly, by the great director of Farewell my Concubine, starts without much vibrations. It is an erotic thriller with a predictable story. High points: Heather Graham's angel face and tempting body. But also Joseph Fiennes, let's be honest. ;)

From "La Stampa"

From the sweet and cruel novel by Nicci French, the American company Montecito and producer Ivan Reitman have given a film with a highly sensual content to the great director of passions, Chen Kaige. It is his first time working for the American cinema. The erotic story about a young woman in London who meets a fascinating and dangerous stranger (...) has a few touches of naïveté and the subject is presented in a not very original way, but it is still interesting.

From "La Repubblica"
Maria Pia Fusco

Two strangers lock eyes and two hours later, Alice and Adam, Heather Graham and Joseph Fiennes, find themselves in a very explicit erotism which seems to never end. It's the beginning of Chen Kaige's Killing me Softly, a definite encounter that changes destinies.

Heather Graham didn't have problems at all during the bold scenes because, as she says, (...) "Chen Kaige created a very serene atmosphere, with very curious indications. During Alice's highest moments of passion, he would tell me: think about when you were a little girl about to open your Christmas presents".

(...) Killing me Softly (the title is in honour of the song by Roberta Flack) is Chen Kaige's first film out of China. He says at the telephone from Pequin: "We shot the movie in London, it was a very interesting experience. The idea for their first meeting, touching hands while they wait to cross the street, came to me when my wife and myself found ourselves in that situation "...
