We live in a world,

That holds meanings,

To them of different lives.

Forever different,

We live for a common goal.

Changing of Lives: The Journey Continues

By: Lunar Bard

'I had started out of town and only an hour away from town when I found trouble. The band of elvens was fighting some stormwings, while the rainbowwings watched. Not knowing what the fight was about, and not wanting to annihilate myself from any of the groups, I made my way to a Rainbowwing that was sitting on a tree branch. "What's the fight about?" I questioned.'

Looking at me in surprise he answered, "the elevens interfered with the stormings while they feasted on a group of bandits. You look like a fighter, are you going to join?"

'He had seen my staff and guessed I could fight, but I wasn't going to enter the fry just yet. Looking at a Rainbow tree I asked, "friend tree, could you tell me any more about this fight?" The rainbowwing looked on in shock. He had never known a human to talk to a tree.

"Friend of the Fin tree Tella, the eleven had wanted to gain a body of his kin, before the stormwings destroyed it. By the law that stormwings operated they should have given it, instead they demolished it. The elevens were angered at this, so they fight. A word of advice, do not fight for either side," finished the tree.

"Thank for the advice, friend tree. I will heed it, to the best of my abilities," I thanked quickly. Thinking up a good way to gain some attention without harming, I whispered, "Hearth mist." That gained their attention, thinking quickly I said, "do you fight within the law elevens, are you sure that the law prohibited the stormwings from taking there need energy? Could one be injured or depleted of energy that that oversteps the law you had in mind? Can you not talk out your problems first?"

The angered kinsmen, shouted, "what do you know of this fight human, you were not here. You know nothing!"

In a calming voice I responded in kind, "I know much, my information is true, that I know. I have learnt that there are always two sides to a fight and always is the misunderstanding. Do you wish to settle this within the law or without it? Think calmly before you start to fight once more."

'The rainbowwings, stormwings, and as will as the elevens looked at me. Neither knowing whom this human was and why she had interfered. Ranoun, the eleven from the forest spoke, "you speak wise and true, this you do. How have you, a human grown so much wiser than us, the elders?"

Laughing softly I responded in kind, "as only one, who has seen much and dealt with much. As only one who heeds that advice given by those much older."

'The stormwings and rainbowwings settled onto the branches of trees a little bit away and the elvens move toward them in an unspoken truce. Looking to the tree that had helped me I spoke, "Thank you friend tree for your help."

"Your welcome child," she said softly.

'Moving towards the elvens but staying a careful distance from them I sat opposite of the rainbowwings. They stared at me while the stormwings stared at the elvens. Finally I couldn't stand the silence, "you know you aren't solving the differences in less you get talking." All attention was mine now. "Since none of you are going to talk first why don't you tell us why you didn't hand over the body?" I told the stormwings.

The eldest of the present stormwings started to talk, "I do not know who you are, but because you've not harmed us or treated us without respect, I will tell our side of the story. We had just came through the forest when these bandits were harming a little stormwing, so we acted. Many of us we're outraged, the fact that they would harm our kin are unacceptable. So we acted. We would not have given that body for that was the offender of the little one."

'I am sure that this was the first time that any of the elvens had heard this or seen this. I knew that soon they would start yelling, refuting this comment. So once again I stepped in, "elvens, before you start shouting again, what would it take to make you believe that what they say is true."

The angered kinsmen jumped up, "in no way could that be true, it would take someone of neutral position to prove it to me, that my kin could have done this."

'The stormwings had started to move angered at this implement. That the elven could imply that they were lying. I spoke in a calming voice, "this I would also demand, as I'm sure anyone else would. Neutrality you ask for, neutrality you will ask. The stormwings, the rainbowwings, as will as you are not neutral. I have just walked into this fight so I cannot helped, but they might, if they wish to." I waved my hands toward the forest.

"There is nothing there human," scorned the kinsmen.

"Nothing?" I pretended. "Are you sure?"

"Of course there is nothing," said the angered kinsmen, losing his patience.

I chuckled in slight delight. "How do you like that, he thinks trees aren't over there," I said to a rainbowwing, making sure that all heard.

'I saw the eyes of many go up. They probably thought I was daft in the head. "Human, yes there are trees there, but they are just that trees," answered the elven that I remembered as Determin.

I laughed, drawing many stares. "Yes, they are trees, but I thought that all elvens were aware that trees are intelligent. I mean, even the rainbowwings know that." Walking to a giant blue fin, I bowed. "Friend tree, I ask of you, do you know if the story the stormwings tell is true?" I asked in a respectful tone. The necklace that I had been given by Tella, hung freely by my neck.

At first, nothing happened, than all heard the voice of the old fin tree. "You know Tella, child?" the fin questioned in a deep, old voice. "I haven't spoken to her in many, many years. Tell me of her and how you wear the symbol of her office."

"I am friend of Tella, but first, may I ask, who I address?" I question respectfully.

"How rude of me, I am Felo. The first male blue fin of this planet. Tella and I grew up together, and were companions to Mneme, Shev's guardian," he said kindly.

"You are not rude sir. You are very kind indeed. Tella was helping me sort out a few things yesterday and today. She said she was going to pass on my story, from tree to tree, so I beg, don't me recite it again, for it is a long one," I begged.

Chuckling deeply he spoke, "of course not child, but now, what was the questioned you asked before?"

"Was their bandits, harming a baby stormwing today?" I questioned.

Giving a great sigh he began, "today, a small stormwing took his first flight by himself, as is custom for stormwings and rainbowwings. He was a great conversationalist. That I remember clearly. We all yurned to help him, when trouble came, but we are what we are." Shaking his branches in disapproval he told his story. "The little guy, had yet to learn to use his battle magic, so he couldn't defend himself when the bandits came. It was a crying shame. The little one was incredibly young and wounded by the time the older stormwings came. I hope the little one will be okay, maybe you can help?" he asked.

'I thanked Felo for his help and turned to the elvens. "You got your witness, you got your reason, if you continue this fight, I will help the stormwings," I said this calmly. Turning to the stormwings I said, "if the little one is still here, I will be glad to heal in wounds he has suffered." I waited as they plowed through what had just been said.'

The elder stormwing made a signal to bring the little one out. Some of the others look angry at the idea that I would be near the young one. But his voice stopped them; "the little one will not survive if he isn't seen to. She offers us her help, we will take it, because we cannot help it." Looking at me he continues, "help if you can, if he lives we will forever be indented in you."

The Ranoun interrupted us before anything could be said; "we owe you an apology. Had we known the truth to what had happened, we would never interfered."

The leader of the raibowwings spoke finally, "cousin, accept his apology, he knew nothing of what had been done. Do not begrudge him what, he could not have changed."

'By this time I had walked over to the baby stormwing. I had been angered at what I saw. He was cut in so many places; it pained me to see this. I had just learnt two healing spells and only minor ones at that. I spoke softly, "oh mother, help me with this one." The stormwing that had been standing by, watching my every move looked surprised. I took out my spell book from my pack and began to look quickly through it. Out of nowhere, the necklace that Hecate had bestowed upon my mother glowed. It gained everyone's attention. The pages in the spell book began to flip until they came to a middle page in titled, The Healing of Major Wounds. Nodding I said, "thank you mother." I began to read the incantation.

By the power of earth,

That of regrowth,

I call you forth.

By the power mercy,

I call you forth,

To heal what is,

To give another chance,

I call thee forth.

By the healing light,

Of the gentle moon,

I call thee forth.

'Slowly, a silver glow came from my hand. It began to engulf the stormwing and heal, to my amazement. It was one of the first spells I had worked. I would remember this next moment forever. He woke up and thanked me. I had never felt so useful in my life.'

Out of nowhere, a female stormwing appeared and said, "thank you, thank you for saving my little ones life. I am forever in your debt."

"No you aren't, I am just grateful that I could help," I said smiling.

' She took her son and disappeared soon after. When she left, I slowly got up, I had never used magic in such a way and I felt drained, not even the fire mist had drained me in such a way. I would never know why such an easy healing would drain me so much, not for a long time.'

'As I looked about, I saw the elvens, stormwings and rainbowwings staring at me. I began to wonder if I did something wrong when the stormwing spoke, "who are you human, how is it possible that you healed one of my kind instead of leaving him to die. No human would have done it."

Hesitating for a bit, I spoke, "I am Remembrance Tempest, I have just arrived in this world. It is possible for me to help your kind, because I do not know why I should hate you. I have never seen you in action and even if I did, it would matter not to me. You do what you must do to survive, as I do for myself. We all have a common goal, to survive."

'Nodding he said, "if ever you need my help or that of any stormwing just give them this." He dropped a necklace and they left. As did many of the rainbowwings.

Laughing I said to the trees and myself, "how many more necklaces will I end up with?"

Looking up at the sound to my left I saw Ranoun. He stopped and said, "I thank you for your help in making us see our error. It would have been quite wrong to harm the stormwings, because of this. Will you join my group of elvens and me for the night? Maybe you can tell us more about yourself?"

'I thought quickly, I didn't know them but I knew that I could trust them, for now. So I nodded and walked with him to his camp.
