It was a normal day, I guess. I was taking a walk in the park with my Mommy
were taking a walk in the park, I was walking and speaking very well by now,
if I do say so myself.
“Jordan!” I heard a familiar voice squeal behind me. I turn around to find
her.
My Angel.
“Oh hello Serena.” Mommy says as I hold my arms up to hug her.
“How’s my favorite guy been?” If possible, she’s even more beautiful then
before. “You’ve grown so much!”
“Meatball Head!” I say in my cutest voice. She laughs, her gorgeous eyes
shining brightly.
“He remembers me!” She says as she hugs me.
Ah! I missed this! She was so warm and soft and…
Suddenly I notice a young girl next to Serena. She had blood-red eyes that just glared at me, and hair that was done up in two oddly shaped buns that reminded me of cat ears, not to mention the fact that the color reminded me of cotton candy. She looked old enough to go to school. But what got me was how much she looked like my angel. Although she certainly had the physical appearance down, her eyes didn’t hold that same joy, in fact they looked a little jealous.
“Serena, we have to go.” The girl said, tugging at Serena’s jacket.
“Oh yes, you’re right.” She lets go of me and turns away.
NO! Don’t go!
I start to cry.
She turns around, just like I knew she would.
“Jordan. What’s wrong?”
“Don’t want you to go.”
“I have to.” She says, happy that I want her to stay because I like her.
When she sees me pouting she asks, “What can I do to make you feel better?”
I remember how she took away my homesickness when I stayed with Darien.
Looking up into the perfect oceans of blue she calls eyes, I state simply,
“Sing.”
“What?” She asks, confused.
“Sing.” My angel, looks as if she’s trying to remember something. Her eyes
clear as she looks at me and smiles.
“Okay. If I sing you a song, will you let me leave?”
“Yes.”
Her smile grows brighter. Gosh, she looks cute like that. My Angle picks me
up, takes me over to the park bench nearby and starts to sing with a voice
that reminds me of a silver bell.

Oh God. Does she even realize what her voice does to me, to everyone? I look
from Serena to Mommy and finally to the girl with cotton candy for hair. Oh!
Does she look mad! I decide to perform an experiment. I move deeper into her
soft embrace just to see the girl’s reaction. Sure enough, the girl was
ready to explode.
She finished singing, much to my disappointment I could listen to that voice
forever. She tightens her hold on me just long enough to lightly brush her
lips to my forehead. I reluctantly let her leave. Hey, a deals a deal.
‘Oh Jordan!’ My mind mocks her. ‘You remember me! I’ll sing you a song!’
I was glad when we got to Darien’s apartment. At least he pays attention to me…
“Hi Serena, Rini.” Darien gives Serena a quick kiss before turning to hug
me.
“Guess what? I saw Jordan today!” Serena says. Darien turns away from me.
Darien knows him too?
“Really?” So much for him paying attention to me. “How is he?”
“He remembers me!” She squeals. Big deal. “He wouldn’t let me leave until I
sang to him!”
“Who can blame him?” Darien says as he pulls Serena closer to him. Her
locket starts to play. Serena looks down at it for a second, smiles, and
then turns her attention back to Darien.
“I’ll take him.”
“Huh?” We all said.
“I said I’ll take him.” Serena repeated. What does she think she’s doing?
“What do think you’re doing?” Darien asks her.
“You have to study so, I’ll watch Jordan.”
“But…”
“I’ll take him to school with me tomorrow and we’re on vacation after that so…until you’re done studying Jordan’s staying with me.”
“Are you sure Serena.” Jordan’s Mom asks. “Yep. My Mom will understand. Plus Jordan’s a perfect angel. So what do I have to worry about?”
Why me?
She’s going to take care of me?
Could life get any better?
I’m about to jump for joy when I notice a pair of blood-red eyes fix on me, the girl says, “Are you sure? I mean, you DO have a busy life.”
“Calm down Rini.” So that’s her name! I wonder if it’s short for Serena…
“Yeah, Serena did a great job taking care of Jordan before.”
“You were helping her Darien.”
What is she trying to do?
Oh No!
I’m not letting cotton-candy-head here ruin this for me! I walk up to my angel, tug on her skirt, and hold up my arms. She smiles and picks me up. I smile as I watch Rini, steam is practicaly coming out of her ears, I simply hold her tighter. “I want my Meatball Head.”
Okay, fine. If it’s a fight you want, it’s a fight you’ve got.
“Serena,” I say in my most sickeningly sweet voice. “You’re right. Can I help you take care of Jordan?
Help me?
Yeah right, she’ll probably throw me out an open window the first chance she gets!
“How nice of you Rini.”
She bought that?
Oh well, I guess she’s too nice to think anyone can ever do anything bad, even evil red eyed, pink haired, Serena look-a-likes.
I sigh as I think of another reason why she’s so wonderful is added to the list.
“Hey I’m going to feel jealous if you keep hugging him like that.” Darien said. Serena just smiles and kisses him.
Darien drives us over to my house. Mommy packs her bags and mine, give me a kiss on the forehead and takes off as Darien drives her off.
“Why are we walking?” Rini complained. I wonder why. Serena has most of the luggage, and me for that matter.
“Darien had to drive Jordan’s mom to the airport. Besides the house isn’t far from here.”
Who am I to complain? My wonderful, perfect, lovely angel is carrying me. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m head-over-heels in love with this girl. I’m not stupid enough to think I stand a chance with this angel. For one thing I’m really young, a lame excuse I know, but it’s true. And the other thing is she’s in love with Darien. Not the ‘I love you’ you hear boyfriend and girlfriends whisper to each other, but the ‘til death do us part, you’re my soul-mate’ kind of love. I’m really happy for them actualy, I don’t know if that means I love her that much, or not enough…
I roll my eyes as I see him cover his eyes with his hands. That brat is trying to steal my mommy away from me! Not if I can help it!
“Okay you can look again.”
Jordan uncovers his eyes, and laughs as he sees Serena’s pajamas. And I thought watching Darien and Serena kissing was disgusting! I shoot dirty looks at him and stick out my tounge when Serena’s not looking. I’m not jealous, well not really…
“Rini, bed time.”
Well at least he’s stuck in his crib.
“Morning.”
I look up and I saw my angel as I had first seen her, in her Juuban school uniform, her hair done up in meatballs. Her face was glowing bright and happy. I noticed that she wasn’t looking at me. I looked to see what she was looking at. She was looking at Rini, I couldn’t help but feel jealous.
“She doesn’t look like such a terror when she’s asleep does she?” She sounded so sad. She smiled as she looked at her, it looked like she was about to brush some hair from her face, but she pulled back. I smile along with her, the I realize that it’s very early in the morning.
Serena up early?
Will wonders never cease?
Serena stares at my puzzled expression and smiles.
“Not used to seeing me up this early are ya?”
“Uh-huh.”
She laughs. “Let’s go. I’m taking you to school with me so you have to be good okay?”
Be good for her?
I’d gladly crawl over hot coals if she asked me to! Okay I’m exaggerating, for a kiss from her. At the school, everyone was telling me how cute I was, naturally, but that didn’t keep me from thinking. (Who says babies are dumb?)
Rini really likes Serena, but she’s probably too bratty to admit it. Hrumph. Serena obviously loves her like a daughter. What an ungrateful little… nope. I’m not going to go there, but I will make Rini appreciate the wonderful person that takes care of her. Whether she likes it or not.
“Hey Serena!” A guy calls her. I remember him, it’s Darien’s friend Andrew.
“Hi Andrew, you remember Jordan don’t you?”
Like anyone could forget me?
“Oh yeah! I remember! Darien took care of him a while back. So, why do you have him?”
“My Meatball Head!” I giggled, hugging her.
She looks kind of sad for a second.
“Jordan’s dad was hurt in a car accident and his mom went to see him. So until Darien’s done with his collage exams, I’m taking care of him.”
Her face brightened. I think it’s amazing how she can change moods so quickly. Then I notice some cotton candy-like hair.
And his response?
He laughs at me and then hugs her tighter than before. OH!! I watch as that brat whispers something in her ear. She turns around and FINALY sees me.
“Oh, hello Rini. I didn’t notice you there,” No kidding. “Jordan and I were going to go to the park. Would you like to come?”
“Okay, I guess so.” Some attention is better than none.
“…the evil witch promised to spare the poor man’s life if he gave her his unborn child…”
Well at least she isn’t another princess.
“…Rapunzel grew to be a lovely girl with very long blond hair…
Now this got my attention! I couldn’t help but look at her. She’d taken down her meatballs to show her own long blond hair. Rapunzel has nothing on her! I slowly find myself falling asleep despite my desire to listen to her voice for a little longer.
She slowly stops reading.
“Good night Jordan.”
“G’night ‘Punzel.”
Oh please! She starts to giggle. That’s it! I’ve had enough! I storm off and go to sleep I wake up some time in the middle of the night. Serena is out like a light and dreaming about Darien. I go up to Jordan’s crib. I think he’s up to. Good. It’s time to give him a piece of my mind.
I’m stealing her?!
You don’t appreciate her!
You don’t deserve her!
“She’s mine! Her and Darien!” Rini says as a thought seems to dawn on her.
“They’ll be mine long after your gone, so enjoy your time with them.” I was most certainly not going to let her have the last word! I spring up in my bed, or as best I can, I’m still sleepy, and say, “They’re mine.”
“What!?” She whispers venomously, not daring to wake Serena. “What did you say!?”
“My Darien, my Meatball head.”
She looks like she’s about to let me have it when Serena’s cat walks in. Rini looks at her and forfeits the fight.
I wonder why. Oh well, back to sleep.
“Nothing Luna.”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were jealous of him.”
“Why would I be jealous of that twerp?”
“Because Serena’s been paying attention to him and not you.”
“Don’t be silly.”
“Who’s being silly? When you first came here, Serena was the same way about you and Darien. Don’t worry, she does still love you. Jordan just needs special attention right now.”
“She’s never showed this much attention to me.”
“She used to remember? But you wouldn’t let her.”
I was about to protest when I remembered how cold I was to her when she read me Sleeping Beauty. Luna was right. I brushed her off when she was trying to be nice to me. I guess she just gave up after a while.
“I…you’re right Luna. She did try, but I just wouldn’t let her”
“Jordan is letting her love him and show him the kindness that she’s tried to show you. That could have easily been you.”
Drat!
Now I know why Serena hates it when Luna’s right. That could have been me instead of Jordan.
Maybe it’s not too late.
Jordan’s leaving today. I never thought I’d miss him. It’s been easier since
my little heart-to-heart with Luna, and the fact that he’s been living with
Darien.
Jordan’s gown on me. I swear, we look like one big happy family.
Heck, I’ve even taken care of the little terror!
Well actually, he’s older than I am…Hey! Wait a minute!
The wedding album…
Jordan was the ring bearer at their wedding!
I just saw him before I left for this time!
Serena smiles and sits down on the bed. She pulls Rini up onto her lap, and opens the book. “Once upon a time…”
