Good Night, Sleep Tight, My Cherry Blossom

By Julie-chan

Rating: R (mild adult language, sexual references (sortof), homosexual relationship, just because I damn feel like it ^_^)

Sailormoon is owned by Takeuchi Naoko, TOEI, and Kodansha. Not me. I'm using the characters without permission, and most defiantly not for a profit. Writing is its own reward...of course, I also like it when people drop me a line. ^^ If you enjoy the story please email me at jm_zzt@softhome.net . Thank you for reading! (NOTE: as with the majority of my stories, don't read if you have a problem with homosexuality. This starts right after the episode where Sailorvenus first appears. (Not sure what # or what the title is, but dub and original vary so much anyway so it would be worthless even if DID know one or the other)

In the park* in Tokyo, two men lay in the grass under- neath a large tree. Of course, most people passed them of as a straight couple, accidentally mistaking the smaller, pretty, copper-haired one as a girl.

"Zoisite..." Kunzite murmured contentedly. "I love you, you little rat*."

Zoisite shifted in his lover's arms. "Mmm...Kunzite-sama, I sooo tired..."

The older King frowned. "Are you alright?"

Zoisite nodded feebly and cuddled against his lover. "I ...I guess I just feel a little drained after...after that Sailorvenus thing."

Kunzite gently stroked the young man's reddish-gold hair. "Neither of us were too well of just after that...but it's been several days. You should have recovered by now..."

Zoey shrugged. "What does it matter? I'll be fine, I promise." He lay his head on the other's chest, and closed his eyes wearily.

'I wish I could trust you on that...' Thought Kunzite worriedly. The younger man was quickly falling out of the Queen's favor, and even if he soon recovered from his wounds, Beryl might decide to--no! 'I won't let that happen!' Kunzite promised himself.

He tightened his grip around the now-sleeping-man's slender waist. He loved Zoisite more than anything in the universe, and he was damned if he was going to let ANYTHING happen to him.

Zoisite moaned slightly in his sleep. "Kunzite..." his whisper was no more than a breath escaping his lips, and the object of his affection didn't hear him.

His eyes opened and he blinked away gathering tears.

"Zoisaito?" Kunzite asked. Seeing the thin trail of salty water tracing it's way down Zoisite's porcelain skin, he asked, "What's wrong?"

Zoisite looked up. "I...I'm scared, Kunzite. The Queen... she is so angry with me now, what if I slip up again?"

"Oh, Zoi-chan..." Kunzite whispered, "I promise I won't let anything happen to you." Gently gathering Zoisite's hand in his own, he added, "I love you too much to allow that."

"Really?" asked the surprised younger man. Kunzite... would protect him. He felt safer already.

Chuckling, Kunzite whispered, "Would I lie to you, you rat?"

Zoisite smiled and kissed Kunzite's hand lightly. "Thank you..."

Taking advantage of the situation, Kunzite muttered in an amused tone, "You'd better be grateful, rat. I expect compensation for this, you realize." His grin told Zoisite he was only joking, but he decided to humor the other man.

"Why, Lord Kunzite..." He murmured in a shocked voice, "I didn't realize...I suppose I will just have to come up with SOME WAY to repay you. Hmm...let me think...ah! I know..."

Shifting position so he was practically on top of Kunzite, he leaned down and kissed him passionately. His hands snaked out and wrapped around his lover's neck.

"Mmm...I think...this is payment enough..." Kunzite laughed in between kisses.

Zoisite pouted. "But I wasn't done with you yet!" He muttered.

Grinning, Kunzite asked, "Who told you to stop? Hmm, perhaps it would be wiser to continue this in our quarters..."

Next day:

He smiled sickly, as the ball of fire danced between his fingertips. "Goodbye." He whispered softly, letting loose the flames aimed at the elevator below.

To his surprise, both Mamoru and Sailormoon emerged from the smoking crater in the floor...alive.

Well, he would just have to use more subtle means to rid himself of this pest...*

"ZOISITE! Do you really expect that FEEBLE excuse to work THIS time?" Beryl shrieked. "Are you prepared for death?"

Zoisite attempted to stand on his own. "Please, Beryl-sama, I beg your forgiveness..."

Kunzite knew he should step forward, should try to save his beloved Zoisite. As he opened his mouth to speak, some strange force restrained him, held him stuck like glue. He couldn't move! Kunzite struggled, but a feeling like fire spread throughout his entire body.

He glowered at Beryl. 'She's doing this. She wants to make Zoisite some sort of example...and I can't do a thing to stop it!' He continued to struggle.

This hurt him more than the feeling of impending doom. He had vowed, only days ago...that he would not allow this to happen...and he could not fulfil that promise.

Zoisite shut his eyes tightly and prepared for the inevitable. When she blasted him, it felt like a million knives slashed through him. With a thud, he felt himself being pushed backwards. He hit the ground and slid back a few feet. A thin line of blood ran down his face from his nose.

Kunzite watched all this is horror, literally unable to move.

"Get rid of it." Beryl dismissed him, waving her hand.

Kunzite could now move himself...but it was too late... too late for anything.

Gathering the small, delicate figure in his arms, Kunzite teleported away.

Zoisite's fuzzy vision cleared as he saw Kunzite standing above him. His expression was pained, as if some great tragedy had just occurred. What was it?...

Oh yes. He remembered now. 'I am...dying? Dead?' He wondered.

He was vaguely aware of Kunzite saying something, "... Begged her for another chance, but..."

He saw that Zoisite was awake, and gently picked him up.

"I...am happy to die with you by my side." Zoey whispered softly. Kunzite tried to hold back tears, tried to somehow deny the truth. Zoisite was dying.

"But...could I ask you one last favor?"

Kunzite, wishing only to please his lover in his dying moments asked, "What is it? I...anything..."

Zoisite smiled wistfully, and replied simply, "Oh, Kunzite-sama... I want to die beautiful." 'You're always beautiful.' Thought Kunzite, as he gently set Zoisite down. Concentrating, he put all of his effort into a spell. His efforts were rewarded when he and Zoisite were showered in flowers.

Zoisite wrapped his arms around his lover. "It's so... so pretty! Oh, thank you Kunzaito-sama." He looked up, gazing into Kunzite's eyes affectionately. "I love you, Kunzite..." He blinked, and a thin trail of tears forced it's way down his pale cheek.

Kunzite returned the young man's embrace. "Forgive me... I've failed you, Zoisite."

Hesitating, he finished, "I just love you so much." He planted a gentle kiss on Zoisite's cheek.

The smaller man smiled. "I know." He whispered, closing his eyes for the final time.

Not able to bear the sight of his lover's dead body, Kunzite used the last of his drained energy to give Zoisite one last gift...

'Zoi-chan always liked the sakura,' he reflected. He turned and walked away. A cold wind swept through the room, scattering a pile of cherry blossoms that remained...

*-*-*

FIN Ooh...that was sad. *sniff* Poor lil' Zoi-chan... That is one of the saddest scenes in the anime, IMO anyway. As you can see, I slightly modified the dialogue, but who doesn't? ^^

Oh yeah: footnotes!

*Yes, this is the infamous "the park" where everything seems to happen in Tokyo.

*Oh, yeah, Zoi. Real subtle. ^^
