The bier block works by keeping the medication in the affected limb. This is accomplished by first pushing all the blood out of the affected limb and then placing on a turniquet. The medication is then injected into the viens and left in place for a designated amount of time. The medications that can be used in the block are Guanethidine or
Bretylium.
