The sympathetic block is very much like the epidural block in a few ways. The needle does go into the epidural space, but the sympathetic chain of the nerve is targeted. Either side of the spinal cord can be used and it is also done under flouroscopy. With this procedure the patient can expect a feeling of warmth in the extremity after the injection and hopefully pain relief.
