The SCS or dorsal column stimulator is a device that is implanted into the body. Leads are placed onto the affected nerve(s) and the impulse generator creates action potentials down the nerve. By stimulating the nerve through impulses, it blocks the pain signals coming upwards towards the brain effectively blocking the signals before the brain can interpet them. The principle is to interrupt the pain cycle, which would be measured in the decreased amount of time that the patient has the system on.
