Penguin Pal Candy Can

MATERIALS
Supplies: Scissors, ruler, pencil, glue gun and glue sticks, thin craft glue, hammer, nail, scrap of household sponge, container with water, paper plate (for palette), paper towels, paintbrush.
INSTRUCTIONS
Paint the can.
Wash and dry can. Use hammer and nail to punch one hole on each
side of can, 1/2 from rim.
For body, basecoat inside and outside of can with white spray
paint. Turn body upside down; paint bottom. Paint sides with a
second coat of white; let dry.
(Note: Squeeze small amount of paint onto paper plate as needed.
Use photo as painting guide.) Wet sponge; squeeze out excess
water. Sponge should be damp, not wet. Sponge paint sides and
back of can with black, leaving a 3-1/4x41/2 oval at
center front white. (Note: White body front should be centered
between holes.) Do not paint can solid black; let some white show
through.
Sponge paint the following: cheeks with magenta; beak with neon
orange. While paint is still wet, sprinkle with glitter.
For eyes and buttons, dip handle end of paintbrush into black paint; then touch handle to surface. Paint eyes above nose and four buttons, evenly spaced, down center front.
Make the sign. Cut sign pattern. Cutting along dashed line. Transfer outside pattern lines only onto jumbo craft stick; use craft knife to cut out sign. Paint front, back, and sides of sign and regular craft stick with white.
For lettering, use
pattern to transfer lettering onto front of sign. Use black
marker to trace over letters, dotting letters where indicated.
(Note: Use glue gun and glue sticks unless otherwise indicated.)For
sign post, glue sign to craft stick, 1/4 from top. With
red, paint diagonal lines down front of sign post, approximately
1/4 apart; let dry. Spread thin craft glue along edges of
sign and along bottom of each diagonal line. Sprinkle with
glitter; let dry. Shake off excess glitter.
Finishing. For handle, twist red and white chenille stems together, leaving ends untwisted. Working from inside of body, insert one stem end at one end of handle through hole. Twist stem ends together. Repeat for opposite side. Cut excess stems.
For earmuffs, glue
one pompom over handle end on each side of body.
For scarf fringe, cut 1 long slits, 1/4 apart, at
each short end of 1x21 fabric. Wrap scarf around
neck; tie ends into knot at left side of body. Insert sign under
scarf at right side of body.
