New Bark Town

When you go in talk to the police officer, then make up the name of the person you just battled. From now on, he will be your rival. After the officer leaves, talk to Prof. Elm to give him your Egg for research. Don't worry, you'll get it back. As you leave, Prof. Elm's Assistant stops you again to give you (finally) 5 Pokèballs.

Route 29 Pokèmon to catch:

Once you get on Route 29, a man (like the old man in Viridian) asks you if you know how to catch Pokèmon. Say no to his question. Now is a good time to start catching Pokèmon. Remember back when I told there were Geodudes through the gate near the middle of Route 29? Well, go in there now, and find a level 3 (or 4 if you have luck) and catch it. Just throw the Pokèball and the Pokèmon. You still have to weaken it first though. Some Pokèmon you should really think about catching right now is: Geodude (pretty nice because it can learn Strength and normal type moves barely budge it), Sentret (it can, surprisingly, learn Cut, Fly, and Surf), Hoot Hoots (pretty strong and the evolved version is awesome looking). Some Pokèmon you might want to not catch are: Pidgeys (OK so Pidegot is really good, but so what? He and/or she is hard to level up), and Rattatas (a pain because normal moves aren't going to get you anywhere). When you're done with your catching spree, head on up to Route 30.

Route 30

Now that you're back from Prof. Elm's Lab, the battling trainers have finished battling and have gone. Now you can go through. And also, along the way you should catch a spider-like Pokèmon. Keep on going north until you see a cave. If you go in, it is like Rock Tunnel, except worst. You can't even see the walls. Go west and go through the gatehouse. You are now in Violet City.
