Emancipation Celebration Festival

Come celebrate with us this long-standing tradition in Owen Sound. This year it will be held August 1-3, 2008.

Past Connections

Owen Sound has a long history of association with its black community. An early stop on the Underground Railway network, this city recognizes from its past, Daddy Hall, a black man often referred to as our first town crier. Daddy Hall daily made announcements in front of City Hall. His face now decorates many street-lamp flags along the main street.

It's an Annual Get-together

Some of the sheduled events: August 1 Speakers' Forum at Grey Roots August 2 meet the Adventure Cycle Underground Railroad Tour Team from Mobile Alabama 2 Annual picnic at Harrison Park August 3 Gospel Explosion at the BME church in Owen Sound More activities are planned.

Special Recognition

Don't miss visiting the Heritage Monument in Harrison Park. It's a permanent tribute to our black pioneers.
