THE GROTTOOne of the best kept secrets in the area, The Grotto can be difficult to find because it is so poorly marked with few signs. But it's a spectacular scene that looks more like something in the Carribean than Georgian Bay. Watch for Cyprus Road. Heading north you'll turn right. About 2 miles there will be the provincial gate (small fee during peak months). Park in the large lot & hike the excellent trails to the Grotto. Don't forget your camera.

The Grotto Seen From the Escarpment
The Grotto is surrounded on three sides by the Niagara Escarpment rocks. This arrangement protects from the wind while providing lots of sun-bathing room. It's a great place for snorkeling or scuba diving as well as swimming. |
Excellent Trails to Get There
The trails are well-marked and nicely maintained. Several different trails will take you into surrounding terrain. Different trails for different skill abilities. Make a day of it. Bring in your picnic basket (carry out your garbage please!!!) Washrooms are available there. |
Excellent Trails to Get There
To get an idea how large this cavern really is, look for the legs haging down from the top. This is only one of the caverns. The other lets you enter from the shore or you can swim under one wall and come up inside the cave. There are also two places where you can climb from the bottom up THROUGH the rock to reach the top. This can only be accomplished if you have paid careful attention to your diet. |
