In 1991, I was diagnosed with carcinoid liver (primary unknown) cancer. I am thankful for 11 years of life. I lead a near normal life with my husband, with the exception of a flare-up, which occurs about twice a year. Usually, it requires hospitilization. On other occassions, maybe a few rough days a month. I have learned that regulating my iron count is very important. It seems, when I am anemic that a carcinoid crisis usually will follow. My oncologist, Dr. Richard Antonucci, has been a blessing. During this time I have been fortunate enough to see my two grandchildren born. Carcinoid is not a death sentence, however, like any serious illness, it has its moments. With the right medication and support from family and friends, it is manageable with prayer and Sandostatin.
